Palmers Lodge Swiss Cottage provides award-winning budget accommodations in a beautiful Victorian Grade II registered historic building.

The building's architecture is impressive, and the staff tried to be helpful. The location is good, with grocery stores nearby and easy metro access. However, the 4-bed female dorm was extremely small, with no hangers. The private bathroom was poorly ventilated and had drainage issues. Each bed had only one plug, which was very inconvenient. There was a layer of dust about 1 cm thick around my bed. The common kitchen was too small for even a single person, let alone the entire hostel’s capacity. The hairdryer is one per each floor and doesn't work properly. Worst of all, a drunk person entered our room at night. This incident made me feel unsafe. The hostel needs serious improvements in facilities and security.

Pax Lodge is a hostel tucked away in the Belsize Park area of London and 5 minutes' walk from its Tube station. Free WiFi access is available. bed linen, towels and a fan are provided.

I was a little perplexed with the amount of complaints aimed at me and the room we were in. I got a parking sticker on my car (I was staying 2 nights) The people beside me were creating a lot of noise and was blamed on me. And complains about door banging. The door did bang but only when the window was opened. It is very difficult to close the door quietly when needing to go to the bathroom. I was next to the communal toilets (which were noisy) but I didn't complain about that. Last year I had no problems as I had an ensuite bathroom. We were offered breakfast for free on our last day, but we felt so uncomfortable and attacked we left at 7:30am. I'm hoping this was just an isolated incident, however having a room with no ensuite would accumulate more use of the doors. Maybe the doors need to be looked at to reduce noise?

In leafy Rotherhithe, this YHA hostel is just a few yards from the banks of the Thames, 10 minutes’ walk from Rotherhithe Overground station or 15 minutes from Canada Water Tube Station.

Our stay was perfect for our family. We have a little one, and we were able to use the pusher throughout the facility, which was a big plus for us. The staff was very friendly, and the breakfast was convenient and offered good value. Overall, we had a wonderful time there, and the beds were comfortable as well.

This is a great location, and the hostel doesn't really claim to be more than a cheap place to stay, which it is. There's nothing really special about it as far as hostels go - but it is clean, safe and not too noisy, which is all you really need! I stayed in a ladies only room, and there was a private bathroom and shower attached.

Great atmosphere; all staff are very friendly, keep the bathrooms and kitchen areas spotless and do their best to accommodate your needs. They also regularly organise evening events at cheap bars/clubs across London, so if you're solo-travelling, you'll have tons of opportunities to meet new people. Definitely, the best hostel I've ever stayed in; would 100% consider staying there the next time I'm in London!
