The reception staff and owners are very very nice, willing to help and give recommendations at any point. Scooters for rent were in a great state. Room was comfy and clean. The kitchen facilities were also great and having free refills was incredible.

BED BUGS!!! Chaos in the hostel. They let us, unwilling and knowingly, stay an extra night after bed bugs were confirmed in the hostel. They didn’t inform people we found out through others. There was also a sanitary towel on the wall of the shower for over 24 hours. There is not enough space for someone to even open the door fully never mind have your bag in your room at night. Yet there aren’t even anywhere near enough lockers per a bed. Curtain also didn’t even cover the bed so there was no privacy. Madness. Would not recommend.

This is a very good, low budget hotel. We received a very warm welcome and - despite being too early for check in - were offered our room. We did not use the pool, although small, it looked inviting. Breakfast on the first day was Indonesian soup, and toast and jam/chocolate spread for westerners. Breakfast on the second day (when we think there were more guests staying) was much better, with a more extensive and delicious choice. The staff were very kind and tried hard to make us welcome. My wife was given a small batik gift when we checked out. The hotel is close to a thriving local area with a lot of options for evening food and drinks. Although there is a mosque opposite, the call to prayer during the night is quietened down and didn’t disturb us.
The city itself has no real centre so wherever you stay you will need to take a taxi to get to the temples or shopping malls. There are a lot of shopping malls, ranging in size and spending need.

Budget travellers know that there is no better way to make the most of their trip than by staying at a hostel: save money for exploring during the day, and swap stories with fellow backpackers in the shared kitchen or bar in the evening. Dorm-style bedrooms with shared bathrooms are standard hostel fare, but private rooms are also available for those willing to pay a bit more.
