I stayed here for 1 night and was overwhelmed by the kindness of staff. I liked the place and privacy and also the garden for relaxing and working. There is also a good WiFi connection if you need to work.
Furthermore I booked a wonderful safari there for a reasonable price - a lifetime experience.
I would like to express my special thanks to Victor and the team for everything you did for me: nice and inexpensive accommodation, safari booking, airport transfer and your kindness 🙏🏼
I also liked Julias very nice and relaxed dog.
Therefore I give you well deserved 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ from my heart.

Staying at Janibichi Hostel was truly an amazing experience. From the moment I arrived, I felt like I was at home. Cosmas and the whole team are incredibly welcoming, friendly, and always makes sure that every guest feels comfortable and cared for. Cosmas has such a pure and kind heart, and his energy really sets the tone for the whole place.
The hostel itself has a great vibe—clean, cozy, and full of warmth. The breakfast was a real highlight: big, delicious, and prepared with love.
Cosmas also shares wonderful stories and gives great advice about the area, which makes the experience even richer. I couldn’t recommend this place enough—it’s not just a hostel, it’s a home away from home. I've found new friends in that place and will forever stay in my heart. I'll be back !

Really good location, just next to one of the main roads of Moshi. Weli (the host) makes you feel welcome at the moment of arrival. Very clean, and upon request really nice curry! Also for the runners, Weli is down for a run.

Superb hostel . Very clean. Good breakfast. They pick me up from bus stop and take me to money exchange place. The ladies at hostel even help my brother do the laundry. They are so nice and helpful. Our flight is very early in the morning. They get up early and prepare breakfast for us around 4AM. This is definitely the best hostel I’ve ever been.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Nice homemade food, we had an overall good experience. Great location if you are going there before climbing Kilimanjaro.
Budget travellers know that there is no better way to make the most of their trip than by staying at a hostel: save money for exploring during the day, and swap stories with fellow backpackers in the shared kitchen or bar in the evening. Dorm-style bedrooms with shared bathrooms are standard hostel fare, but private rooms are also available for those willing to pay a bit more.

Best Hostel. Great breakfast, very friendly staff, close to everything, nice guests and very good (and cheap) food! Laundry service available too. When I come to Moshi again, I‘ll stay here :)
The breakfast was amazing. Cosmas cooked for us each morning and he was an amazing host. I would definitely recommend staying here. Cosmas is very accommodating and can help you with anything you need. He looked after our bags while we climbed kili. We wish we could have stayed longer here ! He is one of the best hostel hosts out there !
Breakfast was great, lots of different options. Wilema always made sure the hostel was clean, worked around the clock, organized and also sprayed every night for mosquitos. It was in great location for going to Materuni to see the waterfall. There was hot shower water. Opportunity for volunteering, very nice front yard and house.
We were a group of 18 people coming. We were taken care of very well. The staff helped us when one of the girls got her phone stolen downtown, but staff steeped in and made sure we were safe. John, our guide, was amazing. Great humor, likeable and very friendly. One of the guests had her birthday at the hostel and staff helped organizing cake, candles and amazing breakfast! We also had some last minute changes and Rahim assisted us all the way through. We are 100% coming back!
Because I happened to be the only guest there and it was low season, I was lucky to receive a room upgrade from a dorm room to a private room with no extra charges. Although it did feel lonely at times as there were no other guests to interact with. The room was clean. I like that the hostel also offers a tour to the hot spring and waterfall areas at a much cheaper rate compared to other tour offices in Moshi (p.s they're a rip off). And they have a cute paka (cat in Swahili) named Cutie.
I had an amazing time at Backyard Hostel Moshi. Extremely kind local staff that will help you out anytime and give you valuable tips. Delicious local foods for breakfast and for dinner. Very welcoming atmosphere and common area in the beautiful garden. I felt comfortable and safe in my room as a solo traveler. I really enjoyed the good vibes and local authentic feeling and am very grateful for my time there. Also the options for trips around Moshi to Kili, Hot springs, waterfalls etc. are amazing.
Great location -near public transport, on a calm street (we felt safe and were not disturbed by unwanted Rafikis) . Staff was friendly and helpful. They have a nice common place to hang out. Facilities are little old, however vibes are really good. Ask for a room with balcony if option is available. Great experience for budget travel.
