Our house is located in Premstätten near the provincial capital of Graz in the beautiful scenery at Kaiserwald in western Styria, attached to the bike path "Erzherzog Johann". To its south is the village of Dobl, on a hill close by is the Sender Dobl - a historic broadcasting monument - and the Gjaidhof castle - formerly a hunting lodge of the Habsburgs, today housing a school. A public bus arrives in front of the house and takes you in half an hour to the city center of Graz. You can reach Thalerhof airport by car in about 10 minutes, just a few minutes by car will take you to the expressway and slip roads of Phyrn A9 and the South motorway A2. Around the house are lush hay meadows, an orchard with walnut trees and plenty of fresh air to breathe. In the nearby pine grove with two giant oaks cavort countless birds and it also happens that once in a while a few deer or rabbits can be seen. In the house garden grow lettuce, herbs, vegetables and runner beans that can be served as a salad with pumpkin seed oil, which is a local speciality. From the terraces to the south you have a wonderful view on the Kaiser Forest and on the the distant Kainachtal.
Four generations of our family have lived in in the “Neue Welt”, which is the name of this district by Premstätten. Back in the days, our ancestors bought the property and used it to operate a farm and an inn. Even today, the field on our property is managed and cultivated by us, Fritz und Roswitha Steirer, with the support of our three sons. We mainly grow oil pumpkins, from whose seeds the delicious pumpkin seed oil is obtained, with which salads and a variety of other foods are refined. We offer the carefully cleaned pumpkin seeds also in its natural form as well as salted and roasted. Also very popular are triggered walnuts that grow in our own walnut trees and that can be eaten plain or processed into cakes and pastries.
No matter what you want to do, whether on foot, by car or bus, by bicycle or motorcycle - our house is an ideal starting point. Just outside of our front door you can find trails that will lead you through the hilly and wooded countryside. You can explore the extensive cycle network in the close surrounding or go on a motorcycle tour, that will take you into the beautiful scenic winelands be it the western-, eastern- or southern part of Styria. Fritz, the landlord can assist you in planning a tour. Very close by is the Schwarzl Freizeitzentrum, a recreation center that includes a swimming lake, and that our guests can enjoy free of charge. You are in a region of Styria that lays much emphasis on the preparation and enjoyment of good food. A special and popular spot for locals and an attraction for many guests are the many quaint wine taverns, where the traditional "Brettljause" as well as a variety of homemade wines and dishes are being served. The fall is the season for young wine, called "Storm", best enjoyed in the accompaniment of chestnuts that were roasted over fire. Not far from our house excellent restaurants, either in Dobl or Premstätten, can be found.
