📌 "A guesthouse is much more than just a place to sleep: it is an open door to authenticity, sharing, and conviviality." 😘😘😘 It is unique, an exceptional setting in the heart of nature, perfect for spending a charming and peaceful moment near our horses. The property is a thoroughbred horse breeding farm covering 20 hectares, where all age groups are represented. It is a breeding facility where 7 to 8 foals are born each year. Located in the heart of Lower Normandy and its lands, close to the sea, the Abbeys of Hambye and La Lucerne d’Outre-Mer (founded in the 12th century), and Mont Saint-Michel, we are also near Cancale, Saint-Malo, Dinard, and the D-Day landing beaches, with incredible hiking, horseback riding, and cycling trails. The guest room is a spacious 42 m² through-room in a traditional longère, offering a very calm environment where you can enjoy both sunrise and sunset. It is the perfect place for a couple or family getaway (accommodating 1 to 4 people). It is also a valued workspace, thanks to a strong Wi-Fi connection. Some of our guests have become regulars for both business and leisure trips. As for horseback riding, there are several equestrian centers nearby where you can ride horses or ponies, including our partner center in Hauteville-sur-Mer, offering beach rides at the Mont. We also have numerous golf courses nearby, offering a variety of courses for both amateur players and experienced golfers. For those who enjoy antique shopping and flea markets, there are many within a 50-60 km radius of the property. From a historical perspective, history enthusiasts will be delighted, as the region is rich in memorial sites and historical monuments, with the D-Day landing beaches and museums just a short distance away.
"Sleeping in a hotel is traveling. Sleeping in a guesthouse is lingering at the home of friends you hadn't met yet." 😘😘😘 At the Crossroads of Passions: Nature, Animals, Africa, Thoroughbred Horse Breeding, and Travel We are delighted to present to you today a glimpse into our life and our interests, which revolve around nature, antiques and flea markets, animals, Africa, thoroughbred horse breeding, and travel. These fields form the backdrop of our experiences, our values, and our constant quest for enriching discoveries. Meeting our guests is always an enriching experience. Recently, we had the pleasure of welcoming a Brazilian family, which was a great joy. Sharing our region with them, both from a tourist and culinary perspective, brings us immense satisfaction. Latest news about our property: We have been selected by the LPO (League for the Protection of Birds and Nature) to become a biodiversity refuge, as our biotope is perfectly suited for the protection of wildlife and our horses. Indeed, the combination of meadows, crops, field edges, hedgerows, and groves creates a highly interwoven environment, offering complementary resources that foster the diversity of both flora and fauna. The population of the bocage results from the combination of species from different ecosystems. It is also important to highlight that groves, hedgerows, meadows, and isolated trees in our bocage contribute to carbon storage in the atmosphere in the same way as forests. The bocage is a typical landscape of Lower Normandy, characterized by a network of hedgerows, embankments, meadows, and small fields, serving as windbreaks and naturally separated by hedgerows.
Hambye Abbey Start your journey by visiting Hambye Abbey, a magnificent 12th-century Cistercian monastery. You can explore the ruins of the abbey, which has been under renovation for over 30 years, and discover its fascinating history just 2 km from the property. The visit allows you to explore one of the most complete monastic complexes in Normandy, including the gatehouse, abbey church, convers’ house, scriptorium, parlour, sacristy, kitchen, and farm buildings. The chapter house, dating back to the 13th century, is one of the finest gems of Norman Gothic art. It was once the center of the ecclesiastical seigneury of Hambye. The seigneury was a medieval and modern Western institution that provided economic and judicial governance to local populations through an individual or a legal entity that did not necessarily exercise sovereignty. The seigneury was distinct from the fief, which was one of the modes of seigneurial administration, along with the allod. It is estimated that there were around 50,000 seigneuries in France by the 18th century. During the Middle Ages, Hambye was characterized by the presence of a powerful fortress, described as "the most powerful private castle in Cotentin." The town is also one of the Grimaldi-Matignon-Monaco historic sites, as the Grimaldi family were the last owners of Hambye Castle, its seigneury, and its barony.
