Grooms Cottage is on a private estate right next to the ruins of Sheriff Hutton Castle. The property is in a peaceful setting but only a few minutes walk away from the village pub, deli and cafe, and general store. Our cosy cottage was completely renovated in 2021 and is in a great location for walkers, cyclists, and explorers. It’s about 10 miles from both York and Malton, Castle Howard is under 6 miles away, and the coast can be reached in an hour. Grooms Cottage sleeps up to 4 guests and we can accommodate up to 2 babies also. We are child and pet friendly. 2 cots are available and can be set up on request. We can provide a high chair, changing mat, stair gate, toys, books, a steriliser, baby bowls and cutlery. Guests are welcome to use our lovely large fenced in garden and paddock behind Grooms Cottage. This is a shared space but we do our best to give our guests privacy during their stay. Grooms Cottage provides a gated utility room, pet bowls, a dog mat, poo bags, treats and doggy towels. We kindly request that dogs do not go on the beds so we can best protect the linens and furnishings for future guests who may have allergies. We hope that Grooms Cottage offers everything you could possibly need for your stay. We try to provide lots of little extras such as a welcome hamper, freshly baked cakes, a Roberts radio, books, games, Netflix, luxury linens, towels, dressing gowns and toiletries. We live close by and are happy to help if needed but we will respectfully leave you to enjoy your stay in peace. Grooms Cottage has a lovely outside terrace with dining and seating and stunning views of the castle ruins. A Barbecue is available on request. Grooms Cottage is waiting to warmly welcome you!

Grooms Cottage is located in Sheriff Hutton on the edge of the Howardian Hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty. The property is on a private estate so there is little traffic and noise but at the same time you can walk into the village and find the post office/ village store, cafe/deli and pub in a few minutes. There is a lovely circular walk directly outside the property that takes you around the perimeter of the privately owned 14th Century Castle and through the woods to the church where Richard III’s only son, Edward, is supposedly interred. Castle Howard is a 10 minutes drive away. The centre of historic York can be reached in just over 20 minutes and the food capital of Yorkshire, Malton, is also close and definitely worth a visit. Parking is available for guests directly outside Grooms Cottage. Further parking is available on Main Street on the roadside if needed.
