Square Oast Studio is in a Grade 2 listed building of historic merit in the attractive village of Offham, surrounded by orchards, woods and farmland. Both round and square oasts were used for drying hops to flavour beer and square oasts were the earliest design. The Studio has a spiral staircase twirling upwards to the spacious, colourful, upper-floor flat with oak flooring, a high-sloping ceiling, and garden views. Sacks of dried hops used to be thrown out of the Juliet door into a cart waiting below with a patient horse. Now with a safety railing, it can be opened to enjoy extra light, sunshine or a view of the garden. Complimentary drinks and biscuits are in the square glass jars and in the fridge. The seating area has both tub and director chairs and the table and chairs can be used for dining or as a work space. Floor cushions can also be used on outdoor furniture and a selection of throws is provided for chilly evenings. There are reference books on National Trust properties, local walks, birds, flowers and trees and a selection of books, games and puzzles. Oak, open-tread galley stairs (please see the main photograph) are quite steep and lead up to the mezzanine bedroom area with a great view of the North Downs, from the casement window. The bed is a king-size sprung mattress with a mattress topper for added comfort laid with pure cotton bed linen. There is a choice of medium and soft pillows, bedside lights and a bedhead with a built-in shelf. The kitchen is well-equipped with a fridge, toaster, dishwasher, induction hob, coffee maker, a combination oven and microwave, iron and ironing board, recycling bins and cleaning equipment. The shower room has a rain-forest shower, heated towel rail, mirror with sensor lights, a first aid kit, hair dryer, hair and body soap, handwash and loo paper. Bistro seating on the balcony overlooks the neighbouring cherry orchards and there is a picnic bench beneath the spiral staircase in the shade of the fig tree.
