Bearing the name of Ulysses’ mother –the legendary ingenious hero from Homer’s major epic poem– “Anticlea Residence” is located at 13 Odisseos Street in Vathi, capital of the Ionian island of Ithaca. A beautiful, recently renovated, traditional building of the 1930’s – representative sample of the early 20th century Ionian architectural style and aesthetics – “Anticlea Residence” has been host to numerous eminent cultural and political figures, such as the iconic Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis and the Greek-French philosopher, social theorist and psychoanalyst, Cornelius Castoriadis. Warm and unpretentious, with bright white walls, large blue windows, black iron fences elaborately crafted with intricate patterns and cast iron beds with new anatomic mattresses, the residence exudes grace, intimacy, cleanness and simplicity. These elements are ideally highlighted by the house’s 672 square meter verdant garden filled with trees laden with fruits, gorgeous fragrant blooms, rich green bushes and a whole array of different kinds of wild herbs beautifully arranged in rockeries by the landlady, Mrs Thelxinoe. The house has bright, spacious, high-ceilinged rooms –outstandingly cool during the summer due to the thickness of their stone walls (70 cm) – with comfortable balconies overlooking the garden and the sea. It consists of an autonomous, first floor, 102.25 square meter apartment named "Anticlea I" and an autonomous 53.72 square meter part of the ground floor named "Anticlea II". At the upper end of the garden free private parking space is also available for the tenants of the residence. "Anticlea I" has 3 bedrooms, able to comfortably accommodate 5 people, 1 living room, 1 fully equipped kitchen, 1 large hall and 1 large toilet with bathtub and bidet and powerful air conditioning. It has 3.75 m. high white ceilings , white interior windows with embroidered curtains, old wooden floors and carved wooden furniture of 1930’s, all renovated one by one with love by the owners. "Anticlea II" has equally traditional interior decoration, 2 bedrooms, 2 powerful Mitsubishi air conditioners, kitchen with glass ceramic hobs, and refrigerator, 2 powerful quiet ceiling-fans, flat screen TV, living room and bathroom. Both Anticlea I and II have organic and anatomic "Dunlopillo" mattresses as well as free Wi-Fi in all areas.
The house is 300 meters from the sea and the city’s main square, 100 meters from the nearest supermarket, 1.5 km from the beach of Loutsa, 2 km from the beach of Sarakiniko, 3 km from the beach of Filiatro and and another 3 km from the beach of Deksa. Within walking distance from the house are also the Maritime-Folklore Museum, the Archaeological Museum, most public services and banks, as well as the island's Health center.
