Facing Valentia Island, at the end of the Iveragh Peninsula, Uisce Beatha House is situated a few minutes drive from the intersection between the "Skellig Ring" and the famous "Ring of Kerry", two of the most attractive scenic roads of the "Wild Atlantic Way". Uisce Beatha House is a modern house with the typical irish architecture. Its backyard ends on the rocky beaches of the Portmagee Channel, where you can observe the sea birds, the sea otters or the seals if you are lucky... Even though our house is situated in a rural and remote area, Cahersiveen (10 min.), Portmagee (15 min.), Valentia Island (20 min.) and Waterville (20 min.) are at proximity.
True Ireland's lovers, after 15 years working hard in the European capital, Brussels, as commercial director (Pete) and lawyer (Maureen), we left our native Belgium in 2018 and moved to Southwest Kerry for a radical change of lifestyle. We decided to share with people the paradisiacal place we have found in Ireland by running a bed & breakfast. "Uisce Beatha", literally "the Water of Life" in Gaelic, is the name for the Whisky in Irish. This was the name given by the Irish monks of the early Middle Ages to distilled alcohol. That is why the well known Irish "Whiskey" derives from "Uisce". Uisce Beatha House is located between the Atlantic Ocean and wide peat fields. It has been named « The Water of Life» because the water and the peat are the two essential components of whisky. As amateurs of whisky, we couldn’t name our house any other way. Also, the area has been highly impacted by the inventors of this name, the monks who came to the Skellig Islands and Cahersiveen in the Middle Ages. We hope you will enjoy all the subtilities of the oceanic and peaty scents and invigorating air from the spectacular nature surrounding Uisce Beatha House.
As part of the famous "Wild Atlantic Way" which follows all the West coast of Ireland, the "Ring of Kerry" and the "Skellig Ring" are full of stunning view points, spectacular beaches, breathtaking cliffs, mystic mountains, medieval castles, ancient stone forts, interesting heritage and arts galleries, exciting watersports, surprising golf courses, challenging fishing, amazing wildlife, etc… Many delightful pubs and restaurants, 10 - 20 minutes drive from the Uisce Beatha House (Cahersiveen, Portmagee, Valentia Island, Waterville), offer you traditional irish and local culture and, of course..., a lot of entertainment. Don't hesitate to spend several days in this wonderful area to enjoy all those treasures!
