Located in the heart of the picturesque Trastevere district, Torre Tolomei stands in a place steeped in history and charm, at the corner of Via dei Salumi and Via dell’Arco de’ Tolomei. The property is housed in a building that is part of the medieval complex once owned by the noble Sienese family of the Tolomei, dating back to before 1358.
A particularly striking feature is the brick tower at the corner: although now shorter than the surrounding buildings, it once soared above the low medieval structures, giving the complex an imposing presence.
Next to the tower lies the Arco de’ Tolomei, restored in the 1920s in a style reminiscent of its original appearance, which still retains the charm of Trastevere’s medieval architecture.
