Bhathiya and his wife Suzy returned from Mauritius in 2010 and decided to convert their property to a HOME STAY unit and named it The Kandyan Manor in February 2011. Then the property consisted of just three extra large rooms with attached en suit bathrooms. Sitting, Dinning and a cozy verandah. Bhathiya’s extreme talents in interior décor lead him to upgrade the Manor by adding three eco friendly chalets. His hands on hobby in interior decor has added much character to their home to make it the best place to unwind. Bhathiya, also called as Big B', the 5th generation property owner is talkative and friendly. He will talk about the history of the village and his ancestors with much enthusiasm. Suzy is has her own talents too in culinary, she enjoys baking, cooking and sewing. Both Big B & Suzy welcomes their guests with a home-made welcome drink using home grown fruit with the pick of the day. With their versatile knowledge, friendly appreance and their travel experiences they are great hosts with a know how to manage a HOME STAY unit to make every guest feel at home. Also meet the rest of our staff, Kumari a short and sweet natured kitchen assistant and Prakash the young & energetic house boy, with a warm and caring personality who is ever willing to learn something new every day. Shy but willing to learn and help is a unique feature they both have.

Our home is a traditional Walauwa ( Manor) dating from more nearly two centuries ago, in the central hills of Sri Lanka, which has been home to six generations of a family originating from Harispattuwa District. Come visit us and learn about the six generations and experience living with a family full of history. Hidden in the verdant central hills of the paradise Isle, this is an ideal place to unravel the intricacies of rural Sri Lanka in the nearby village with a homely atmosphere, that borders on village rice paddies. An indoor pool built to a Bohemian style awaits you with two adorable Labradors posing as our PRO's to usher you to your rooms and show you around the house. A must try is "The Deck by Kandyan Manor" our in-house restaurant that serves a mixed cuisine. Suzy's known for her cooking skills that will leave you with mesmerising flavours. She is happy to be taxed by you to prepare home cooked traditional Sri Lankan dishes and other specialties, enriched with the aroma of home-made spices to suite your pallet. Also, don't forget to ask Suzy about her authentic cooking lessons and a tuk tuk tour to the village market, Big B's enhanced Local street food tasting tour, these would be the highlights of your stay with us, GURANTEED! Surprise your partner for his/her birthday, wedding anniversary or engagement proposals. Give us the free hand to make it romantic and memorable. Our home is aproximatley a 10 minute drive to the city, 20 minute drive to the Royal Botanical Gardens, a five minute walk to a 400 year old village temple and the rice fields. A five minute walk to the public bus stop that will easily take you to the city in one go.

"Yatiwawala" our village is an ideal neighborhood to embark on a journey of discovery at dawn to observe the reawakening of village and natural life alike. You can stroll down enticing jungle byways, through the green paddy fields, see the buffalo ploughing the field or threshing the harvest, as the season demands. Along the way you will see many different spices thriving in their natural element- goraka, nutmeg, cinnamon, cardamom, coffee, cocoa and black pepper, many varieties of fruit and timber tress native to the shrub jungle. Visit the 400 (over) year old Buddhist temple The Sri Rajasingharamaya, meet our high knowledgeable head of the temple ( Loku Hamuduruwo), stop and take a break at the "Ambalama", a place of shelter built by ancient kings for travelers to pass through the night and for traders from different localities to exchange goods and build on friendships. The Hunasgiriya mountain range will watch over you from a distance, adding an element of grandeur to the picturesque village scenery.
