Siġġiewi, also known as Città Ferdinand, is a historic city in the Southern Region of Malta, situated on a plateau flanked by two valleys. Established in the 14th century, it was granted city status in 1797 by Grand Master Ferdinand von Hompesch, who named it after himself. Cultural and Historical Significance The city is renowned for its rich history and cultural heritage. The Parish Church of St. Nicholas of Bari, constructed between 1676 and 1693, is a notable example of Baroque architecture. Designed by architect Lorenzo Gafà, it features a titular painting by Mattia Preti and a statue sculpted by Pietro Felici. Siġġiewi celebrates its annual feast in honor of St. Nicholas on the last Sunday of June.
