Hailing from the world of engineering and academia, and with absolutely no experience in the hospitality industry, the two of us set out on the adventure of a lifetime, with nothing but a little capital, and enormous passion. Situated in the upmarket beachfront suburb of Summerstrand, Port Elizabeth, Kingfisher GuestHouse is the ideal base for both local and international tourists, academia, and corporate visitors to the Friendly City. Individually decorated, en-suite rooms with private entrances and patios in tranquil surroundings, offer a base where business travellers can unwind after a day at the office, be spoilt with a superb breakfast, and can easily access the centre of Port Elizabeth, and the Port Elizabeth International Airport. Whether for registration or graduation, or for attending one of the many international conferences hosted annually, students, their parents, and academics from all over the world, use Kingfisher GuestHouse as a haven from where they attend activities at both the North and South Campuses of the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU). For the sun seekers, Port Elizabeth’s Blue Flag Beaches, Kings Beach and Humewood Beach, as well as the Mac Arthur Baths, are a stone’s throw away. Shopaholics can indulge in the luxuries on offer at Bay West Mall, Walmer Park, and Greenacres Shopping Centre, all within easy reach from Kingfisher GuestHouse. Whether for surfing, sailing, yachting, windsurfing, kite surfing, hiking, bungee jumping, or a safari where the Big 5 can be experienced, visits to Jeffreys Bay, St Francis Bay, Storms River and Tsitsikamma, the Addo Elephant National Park, Seaview Lion Park, Kragga Kamma Game Reserve, and various other private game reserves in the area, make for easy day excursions.
