Whistlewood is a beautiful heritage house built circa 1875 in Walmer. It's made of spacious rooms with high ceilings, wooden floors , stained glass windows and fireplaces. It holds a natural historical charm in leafy Walmer, so an excellent position to visit the city. The house comprises of 3 non smoking bedrooms all with platinum sized Queen Ex/ Length beds for a good nights rest. Guests can share a fully equipped kitchen, quiet lounge, Sun Room or outside Patio and Pool with outside eating area . Plus enjoy landscaped and extensive gardens to bring a feel of calm and tranquility. Our bird life is rich with the many trees and we are growing a wild meadow to feed the bee’s on our grounds over looking 6th Avenue. All our rates are inclusive of a light Continental / Vegan breakfast, which guests make themselves from a large farmstyle fully equipped shared kitchen . We have 6 walkable restaurants all within a 2 to 12 minutes of the Whistlewood from the very well Know Hussar Grill , a Sushi and Mexican , plus two Airtisan Bakeries and Angelo's a family restaurant so all tastes and budgets can be looked after. However, for those who want to self cater a fully equipped Kitchen is available for the Guests to use provided. We also have a small beautiful historic function room which can be hired for Business or Training and can accommodate 8 guests for business or pleasure. We are ideally placed for inter sports school events being very close Grey Junior and High School. We are very close St George’s Cricket Ground and Hospital . For those needing relaxation or to spruce-up both a spa and hairdresser is in walking distance and gyms within a 15 minute radius. A warm welcome, this is a wee bit of history about your Host. I have always loved travelling and meeting new people, for me it was always in the blood naturally. So it was quite a shock when my 34 year Airline career came to abrupt end out of Heathrow T5. During lockdown my beautiful elderly mother passed on , and Whistlewood my parents former retirement home stood empty and neglected , it also was need of much love and restoration. So with the support of my siblings. Plans were drawn up , and with permission of the Heritage Society and the Planning Department the dream was realised. I did not realise it at the time, but I had been blessed with an opportunity to save this historic home being one of the oldest farmsteads in Walmer , and also take on a new adventure and lease of life . We are also rich in bird life being close to the Baaken’s Valley and I am a keen bird watcher. The house is nestled in beautifully gardens and I am already in the process of growing an orchard, wild meadow and living kitchen, which hopefully benefit those who stay with us over the coming years. I am passionate about recycling our waste and providing a eco friendly sustainable policies for our Guests for a greener future. It took approximately 6 months to restore and bring back the magic to this unique gem. We replaced the wooden floors , and recycled the uplifted wood to make the Desks, Headboards , Barn Doors and various other furniture for the Bedrooms. I opened the 1st of September 2022, so we are now 2 yearsand 8 months old as we head into our third Winter. We are a delightfully small guest house only offering 3 rooms at this current time , but it allows us to offer a intimate and personal customer service. Gqeberha / Port Elizabeth is generally a small city, so easy to get about. Public transport is not ideal but their are many Taxi's and Ubers to see to safely to your destination at reasonable rates. Whistlewood is very centrally positioned for both business and international visitors who have business in Port Elizabeth, being close to the Airport and having easy access to the N2 freeway. If here for an event , we have a Hair Salons and Spa with-in a 5 minute walk from the guesthouse. If you into sport the Little Walmer Golf Club is not far away , although you will need to pay to play. If you wanting restaurant recommendations please contact me and I can send list to consider. We are nicely located next to the Hussar Grill so having a fine dining steak experience is only 2 minutes away. We are only 12 minutes to the beachfront by car. So if the sea and the sand is too much, you can you can relax by the pool at your own pace in a safe and tranquil setting. Port elizabeth is not far from many Malari Free Game Lodges , and day trips can be arranged to the Addo National Elephant Park , or to many Private Game Lodges .. full day packages start from R4500 with all transfers , lunch and Dinner with a guarantee of seeing a Lion. Our biggest prize is the incredible marine life. Depending on what time of year you visit. You can experience whales. dolphin, penguins and can join one of the many incredible Raggy Charter Cruises and see these wonderful creatures close up and personal.
