Lovely clean hotel with friendly staff

Overlooking the sea in the beautiful Lapad Bay, the Kompas hotel can be found near a pebbly beach and the popular promenade, only a 15-minute bus ride from Dubrovnik's Old Town.

The location was fantastic, the beach was a particular highlight, with crystal clear water, it was a perfect swimming spot. Dubrovnik was a 15 minute drive away, which was perfect for exploring but also made coming back to the hotel feel peaceful and secluded rather than the holiday feeling like a ‘city’ break. The staff were fantastic, particularly housekeeping who came in twice a day and the little goodnight chocolates were a nice touch. The food was also delicious, the menu was expensive but on half board it felt like you got great value for money. Off season it is a buffet for breakfast, with a menu for dinner, off which you could pick a starter, main, and dessert.

Free WiFi is provided in all areas. All modernly furnished rooms are air-conditioned and come with a flat-screen satellite TV, a safe, a minibar and a kettle.

I recently stayed at Rixos Premium Dubrovnik expecting a luxury experience, but it was far from that. While the hotel is marketed as a 5-star property, for me it was barely a 3-star experience. To start, I had to change rooms three times during my stay – completely unacceptable for a hotel of this supposed caliber. The rooms were not clean, and the standards of hygiene were way below what you'd expect. You’ll see in the attached photos – they speak for themselves. Customer service was also a huge letdown. Staff had the "smile on the face" approach but didn’t actually do anything to help. Requests were ignored, problems were brushed off, and there was no real sense of care or hospitality. Overall, I left feeling frustrated and disappointed. This was supposed to be a relaxing and premium experience, but instead, it was stressful and not worth the money. Definitely not coming back, and wouldn’t recommend unless things seriously improve.
