Nothing here, but a 1990s art gallery, permanently closed pubs and offices, some crumbling 1920s department stores, Scotch churches which are closed and plain anyway.
Plus its unsafe at night due to "colourful" deros and homeless

Unfortunately, I could not go to my favourite Pub and Restaurant The Craig. There was absolutely no parking in the area at all and I had to give up after the 6th drive around the block for the same outcome. It was raining and would have been a 20-30 mins walk alone and in darkness to get to and from the Octagon.

Had dinner at the Creig (Irish bar), beautiful hotpot pie and veges, fire was on staff were great. Recommend this place for its atmosphere and meals.
The Octagon seemed to have a few eating places that had closed down. Found a few cafes near the Octagon (in the side streets) that had more character.

The hotel location is very good, right in the center of Dunedin, close to the Octagon and to many of the historical buildings the city is well known for. The bike rental shop was close by and also near the starting point for the best bike trails around Otago Harbour.
Great location. Walking distance to The Octagon which is full of restaurants, shops, art museum, and historic church. Lively nightlife after 10 pm Thurs-Saturday. Lots of University of Otago students around.
This home was spacious, clean, and comfortable, with a lovely view from the living room and a convenient location on the Octagon. The days we were there, Dunedin was quite cool in the morning; the heated floor and towel rack in the bathroom made things much more cozy. Checking in and out was very easy--thank you!
The clean, fully fully (yes) apartment was comfortable and well located in the Octagon not too far up the hill from restaurants and close to a large supermarket. It's across the street from a reasonably priced indoor parking garage. Free street parking 7pm-9am. Outdoor stairs to first floor entrance level of two bedrooms, each of which with an en suite bathroom, in apartment staircase to living room/kitchen.
The apartment was architecturally amazing with great views from all the huge windows. High standard fitout. Comfortable bed and sofa. Easy walk to The Octagon, cafes and restaurants. Loved the Tart Tin bakery on ground floor
Clean and comfortable hotel room in the heart of Dunedin. Walking distance to the Octagon and numerous restaurants and cafes. Friendly and helpful staff.
This hostel is central to Dunedin, so you do not have to walk far to the restaurants and bars in the Octagon. The hostel sits over a large bar with a lot of billiard tables. Seems very popular with the locals and college students studying at the nearby University of Otago. The dorm rooms are typical bunk bed layouts with budget twin mattresses. The bathrooms were reasonably clean and a decent kitchen area. They have free breakfast, but it is a pretty minimal offering.
Staying in this classic old building right at the Octagon was perfect. The building is "old" but everything inside this 4 bedroom unit is new and to a very high standard. It is unbelievably comfortable and very well laid out. The kitchen/living room/ dining area combination is perfect. The bathrooms were large and well supplied. The unit was impeccably clean. We recommend it most highly for a stay in Dunedin (which happens to be our favorite city in NZ.) The rental agency was also a dream to work with. Thank you.
The first time we have stayed at his hotel and really couldn't fault anything from the time we were met on arrival with a cold drink each, shown to our room and valet parking. Very close to the Octagon so easy walk to all of the restaurants and the Regent Theatre. Continental breakfast was very adequate and tasty. Thank you.
