Beautiful retreat house with lovely amenities and wonderful staff. My room was very cozy and had a comfortable futon, with the most wonderful quilt/comforter I've ever used!
I appreciated the provided tea & coffee bar, and enjoyed the relaxing Buddha room with tatami floors.
I was sent a message by staff before my arrival, and they made sure my check-in was easy. I would love to book a longer stay next time to fully enjoy the space!
Ideal for nature lovers looking for a self-sufficient getaway, lodges are fully furnished and have kitchen facilities. Usually made of wood and surrounded by forests or mountains, lodges can be part of a group or a single unit. More remote than vacation homes, lodges are popular for safari trips.
Amazing experience at all levels, the lodging was perfect, I was expecting something basic but it was rather similar to a ryokan, big rooms with confortable futons, traditional Japanese furnitures, yukata, complimentary tea in the room, good and very diversified meals, commun and private sento with a big bath tub. Highly spiritual moments on the fire ceremony and the morning prayer, moreover we had a free tour of more than an hour to learn a lot on oesoteric buddhism and the ancient history of the place.
The owners were the kindest people on this planet, we arrive late in the evening after check in hours and they greeted us with smile and kindness, even prepare a dinner for us! Forget about temple lodging, this is THE best place in koyasan! Suzume-san rules :)
Saizenin is a beautiful temple situted slightly away from the main road. The staff was warm and welcoming and the room was big and comfortable. The food being shojin-ryori, was very different. Overall it was a truly unique experience to stay in a temple lodging.
The temple is so beautiful and the lodgings are spacious, comfortable and clean. We stayed in a room without bath, so used the communal Japanese bath which was also very clean and pleasant. It really is a unique experience but would recommend two nights as one night would be a bit rushed. The vegetarian food is exquisite and delicious. The meditation and chanting were very interesting and definitely worth it. Overall would definitely recommend this place for a two night stay.
A lovely buddhist ryokan style lodge. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The room was large and the futon beds were very comfy. Amazing veggie 7-course dinner was laid out for us in the evening as well as breakfast. The monk ceremony in the morning was also great to experience.
Everything from the check in process to the stay. The staff were extremely helpful, and the lodgings were just as beautiful as others in the area! The bedding was exactly the same as other shukubos, and the bonus kotatsu set up was so wonderful on a cold and rainy day. Travellers not used to the custom of a Japanese bath house (communal bathing in a gendered, open room) may feel turned off, but we had absolutely no problems keeping it simple and immersing ourselves in the culture.
Unique experience of lodging in a beautiful buddhist temple. The place has a very special atmosphere. The (buddhist vegetarian) dinner and breakfast were rich and very tasty. The staff was super welcoming and friendly. Good onsen bath. Traditional Japanese-style room (tatami mats and futon beds) was really spatious and comfortable.
Staff was super helpful, good position in Koyasan, very good onsen baths, comfortable simple rooms.
The morning ceremony where guests were invited to participate was amazing.
Also very good price, one of the cheapest temple lodges I found in Koyasan.
Many of the other temple lodges are too expensive in my opinion.
