Cradle Mountain Wilderness Village offers self-contained accommodations, nestled in a rainforest setting with native wildlife throughout the property.

Staff was friendly, sweet, and helpful. Good location with a walking trail that led to the Visitor's Center. Definitely a step up from other nearby cabins (we stayed in a newer King Spa Chalet). Loved the back deck nestled into the eucalyptus trees; it was very private and felt like we were in our own special treehouse. Cabin warmed up fast with the powerful gas fireplace/stove. Very nice to provide fresh milk and coffee pods. Overall, a positive experience with a few things (see below) that need a bit more Tender Loving Care (TLC).

Tasmania Highlights

  • The Bay of Fires

Bursting with colour, the Bay of Fires hosts beaches dotted with giant boulders cloaked in striking orange moss and sapphire waters for diving, swimming and snorkelling.
  • Cutting edge art at MONA

The Museum of Old and New Art offers a feast for the senses. Accompanying the impressive gallery is fine dining, a library, cinema and even an on site winery.
  • Cradle Mountain National Park

Hiking is the best way to explore the natural beauty of this area, where rugged mountain ranges reflect in the waters of glacial Lake St Clair and snowy peaks appear in winter.
  • Whitewater rafting on the Derwent River

The Derwent River is a prime spot for adrenalin-packed whitewater rafting. Even beginners can join in on the easier runs, while the pros can try out the fast-moving waters to test their skills.

First class food and service in restaurants and cafes...

First class food and service in restaurants and cafes everywhere. Quite remarkable. Prices are generally cheaper than the mainland. The pier, views of mountains and the Derwent river amazing. Loads of things to do for everyone. Ubers and taxis everywhere and $12 will get you about anywhere. So much art, culture, wine, activities in a small city but just walking around is the best part. Finding random bars and cafes, talking to locals. Some of the best distilleries, beer and wines in the world.

We visited the Queen Victoria Art Gallery. Excellent basic education on the Aborigines and a long view of history. Also, the McWilliams paintings were amazing. How smart are the Aussies to have free entrance to their museums and galleries! Great day!

Devonport is well located to do further sight seeing.

Devonport is well located to do further sight seeing. I didn't get to see much of the immediate township, however travel along the north coast was great to easily get to places such as Ulverstone, Penguin and Burnie. Launceston is only 100 kilometres in the other direction, plus places such as Sheffield inland are within easy reach and well worth a visit.

The Gordon river trip is a must and I would highly recommend to upgrade to premium. You will not regret it. The wood mill is very interesting and again would high recommend. The local hotel also makes some great meals and they are very good size serves. Overall a very peaceful place and we will be back to continue exploring

The national park facilities are fabulous.

The national park facilities are fabulous. The Dove Lake circuit walk was beautiful. Some sections on the walk though were tricky especially for those perhaps not so agile. Lots of steps with some step and narrow. Not bad enough to not get through it but just be wary that it is not all flat. The second walk up to Lilla Lake and the Wombat Pool were also beautiful with also some tricky bits on the track. But the return trip from the Wombat Pool (if you are not continuing on) reveals a stunning view of both Lilla Lake and Dove Lake behind it. Didn’t notice it on the way up only on the return. The walks are very rewarding. A real wilderness adventure. But remember the sunscreen and a small first aid kit for any little mishaps on the way. We had a very clear, stable weather day but the weather can change in an instant so just be prepared for a cold change even if it’s a sunny start. The shuttle buses from the visitor centre to Dove Lake ran every 10-15 minutes and were very efficient. If you want to have a break between a couple of walks, the visitor centre has a very good cafe and easily accessible to have lunch then return on a shuttle bus to one of the stops to continue. There are clean toilet facilities and water refilling stations at the different stops in the park. Cradle Mountain is beautiful

I must admit that when I saw the property I was very disappointed .advertised as a lake view on the bay,It was a mediocre motel at best and the lake was a dirty children’s play pool really but dirty and I would never have let any children of mine anyway near it.

The Lodge is beautiful, service and food is first class. The staff at the Visitor Information Center were very helpful. I would like to mention the cleanliness of the National Park and I would expect all the areas would be the same as the walk to Wineglass Bay.
