My room was very near the restaurant and was a little loud in the evening. But overall the stay was very good. The staff were excellent, very kind and responsive. The room was on the smaller side but very clean. It had a mosquito net, fan, TV and a comfortable bed. The bathroom was nice and there was hot water. The wifi was very fast. Food was good and the restaurant is open all night, which is nice if you get in late. Will definitely stay here again.

Awesome Kisumu
The Wigot backyard was a nice spot. Ate at the market stalls which has good African cuisine at favourable prices. Getting around kisumu is easy and affordable, either using the Tuk Tuk or motorbike. What to avoid when in Kisumu is sleeping at hotels within the city centre there's so much noise.

I was in Kisumu to visit my school, so I didn't do any...
I was in Kisumu to visit my school, so I didn't do any of the normal tourist activities, which I tackled years ago. If you are there for these you probably need 3 days at the most. The most fascinating place is Dunga Beach, where there is plenty of local action with fishing boats, fish sorting and a wonderful array of huge birds. It is sometimes possible sail on Lake Victoria from here, but more likely is it from the Impala Park at the back of Sunset Hotel. Kisumu Museum is worth a visit,especially to see the Luo Museum Local transport is not to be recommended, but taxis are easy to come by, usually of good value and will stay with you from place to place. Best to arrange them through your hotel and get a price before you set off.

Kisumu is a beautiful lakeside city.
Kisumu is a beautiful lakeside city. Has very beautiful views of Lake Victoria and some wonderful scenery and parks. It is as close an experience to being at the Coast as you can get in Kenya without being at the Coast. Make a point of visiting Lwang'ni Beach and Dunga Beach, they have the best tilapia in the country.

I learned a lot about Kisumu and the plants that are taking over Lake Victoria. I also toured the slum area in Kisumu and met some fantastic people. I would highly recommend a city tour with a Boda driver.

Kisumu can be very warm, but Lake Victoria is wonderful to visit and is a beautiful place to go hippo watching or boat riding. It is the largest Lake in Africa, and the scenery here is breathtaking!

From $107 per nightWe had a wonderful stay just outside Kisumu. Quiet, but still close to town. The hotel is partly still built, but we didn't see or hear any constructing. The pool is magnificent and the staff is the best you could wish for. Breakfast is a delight. We really felt like a couple of days relaxing holiday here. The hotel is surrounded by a solid wall and has 24 hour security on duty. The road to the hotel is still quite bumpy, but 2WDs and taxis go there without a problem. The room was spacious, clean and pleasant. Excellent bed and shower.
