This is a great place to stay if you are planning to dive in Mafia for a view days. The two cosy new bungalows are part of the family run dive center. The staff is extremely welcoming and helpful. The breakfast is yummy and you can also have the option for dinner. I enjoyed the big pool to relax after great dives and the beach is just a stone throw away. Also the dive center and its extremely helpful staff deserves 5 stars!

We traveled to Mafia Island specifically to see the whale sharks. We went out the first day with a highly rated local tour company and did not see any whale sharks which was unusual. The next day we decided to go out with Hassan, the manager at Maisara Mafia Beach Lodge. Hassan was determined and we did in fact see whale sharks!! Hassan took such good care of us. I was so happy to see the whale sharks but I was getting tired after a few swims so I was content to stay in the boat and let my family continue swimming. After resting a bit, Hassan jumped in to see if it was a good view for me. He came back to the boat and let me know it was a great view if I was up to swimming again. I jumped back in and had the very best time! I cannot say enough good things about Hassan and everyone at the Lodge. They are all so kind and helpful. I also highly recommend the massages at Maisara Mafia Beach Lodge. Thank you Hassan and everyone at the Lodge.

Beautiful clean bungalows on the beach,great food and amazing helpful staff. We had great time in this place.

The staff and dedication to detail was outstanding. The place is very well taken care of and the food was excellent. We got upgraded to the newly built rooms. The area was quiet and the balcony was overlooking the sea. We felt like we were in paradise!! They made a big effort to make it eco friendly, which we loved. We will definitely go back! Thank you to all the staff for an unforgettable experience

The property has a wonderful pool, and large, clean, modern rooms with air conditioning. The staff, especially Hamidu at the front desk were kind and really helped make our stay very comfortable. You could easily walk from the airport to the hotel, but the hotel will happily arrange transport for a fee. We organised our whale shark and full day snorkelling through the hotel and they were both fantastic! The whale shark tour started a 7min Tuktuk ride away, while the snorkelling tour was about half an hour away to the marine park on other side which means you have to pay the marine fee. Worth it. And nice to stay on the side where you don’t need to pay the fee everyday. The activities needed to be paid in cash, but the hotel and meals can be paid with card. There’s an ATM around short walk away. The restaurant is good, a loved the banana milkshake!

It is a beautiful place, well organized and very friendly and considerate staff. They remember your names, likes and dislikes when it comes to food - we were really impressed We tried different activities at the dive centre and had a great time. They also have a very comfy lounge area to chill and escape the heat.

I have no word to describe the kindness of Hassan to welcome in his garden. Everything is curated and comfortable. Restaurant is delicious and the atmosphere in the garden under the stars is simply amazing. This place is a must if in Mafia. The room is also comfortable, mosquitoes free and clean. Hassan also organize and suggest great tours with selected guides. You can completely rely on him and his staff

Aia ja rõduga Mafia Island Bungalows asub Rufiji mafia Kilwa merekaitsealast umbes 6,1 km kaugusel. Majutusasutusest avaneb vaade aiale. We just finished our 3 day stay in Mafia and at Mafia Island Bungalows : it was a lovely stay, all-round : beautiful space for the house, comfortable terrace, perfect bedroom (Upendo - very nicely decorated with local flair, loved it), great bathroom… everything fine! The place is overall very quiet as it sits a little away from the road at the entrance of the Marine Park. We did not meet the owners, who where on a trip off the island : however, they took the time to check-in with us every single day, and it was much appreciated. We also would like to adress a great shout out to the staff : Hassan was very available, without being « too present » / just the right balance; and there is an amazing Chef on premises: we loved the breakfasts and even more the diners! The homemade bread and Chapatis, the soups, the mains and the deserts… everything was delicious ! Well done, we whole-heartedly recommend staying with you when visiting Mafia and hope to come again one day ☺️

This has to be the best place on Mafia island. Set apart from town, on a bluff with a commanding view of the sea, and the sunset, three very stylish - and huge - rooms, large infinity pool, great food, superb manager in Ali and his excellent assistant Salama. Mafia is great - a paradise Indian Ocean island just open enough to be accessible and for everything to be easy to arrange - but it feels like the big tourist rush is yet to arrive. And Kilekeni, a short hop from town, the airport or the busier east coast, is one of its most serene and supremely relaxing spots.

The property is beautiful, food is delicious, and the staff was very kind. I highly recommend Butiama to anyone traveling abroad. Magida island was phenomenal because of their hospitality.
