We traveled to Mafia Island specifically to see the whale sharks. We went out the first day with a highly rated local tour company and did not see any whale sharks which was unusual. The next day we decided to go out with Hassan, the manager at Maisara Mafia Beach Lodge. Hassan was determined and we did in fact see whale sharks!! Hassan took such good care of us. I was so happy to see the whale sharks but I was getting tired after a few swims so I was content to stay in the boat and let my family continue swimming. After resting a bit, Hassan jumped in to see if it was a good view for me. He came back to the boat and let me know it was a great view if I was up to swimming again. I jumped back in and had the very best time! I cannot say enough good things about Hassan and everyone at the Lodge. They are all so kind and helpful. I also highly recommend the massages at Maisara Mafia Beach Lodge. Thank you Hassan and everyone at the Lodge.

The pics don’t show just how lovely this hotel is…the gardens are beautiful, rooms are bright and spacious, huge bed, fridge etc all set around the pool & garden. Also ate lunch / dinner every day and the food is excellent / octopus in coconut sauce was a fave! and it’s a good varied menu so plenty of choice. WiFi and power both consistent, wifi reached the rooms, staff are great. Literally 3mins drive from airport…very good option if staying this side of the island. Highly recommended!

The food was great and we enjoyed the variety. Mafia is beautiful and it is worth a visit to the village.

I have no word to describe the kindness of Hassan to welcome in his garden. Everything is curated and comfortable. Restaurant is delicious and the atmosphere in the garden under the stars is simply amazing. This place is a must if in Mafia. The room is also comfortable, mosquitoes free and clean. Hassan also organize and suggest great tours with selected guides. You can completely rely on him and his staff

Mafia Island Bungalows býður upp á garðútsýni og gistirými með garði og svölum, í um 6,1 km fjarlægð frá Rufiji Mafia Kilwa Marine Reserve. excellent accommodation in utende village. the staff is super friendly, attentive and helpful. the rooms are beautifully done, breakfast is fresh, delicious and more than enough. the dinner for 12$ is reasonably priced, you get a starter, a main and drinks and it‘s delicious. keep in mind that you‘re staying in the village and not on the beach. they lend you bicycles for the 5 minute ride and the drive is really nice. if i ever return to mafia i‘d stay there again. asante tena:)

This has to be the best place on Mafia island. Set apart from town, on a bluff with a commanding view of the sea, and the sunset, three very stylish - and huge - rooms, large infinity pool, great food, superb manager in Ali and his excellent assistant Salama. Mafia is great - a paradise Indian Ocean island just open enough to be accessible and for everything to be easy to arrange - but it feels like the big tourist rush is yet to arrive. And Kilekeni, a short hop from town, the airport or the busier east coast, is one of its most serene and supremely relaxing spots.
