Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesBelaj’s House is a very nice place on the hill above the old bazaar area. Our room had a a great view of Gjirokastër, the castle, and the mountains across the valley, as did the upstairs outdoor patio. Everything was new, clean, and worked well. Quiet at night. This is a beautiful old Gjirokastër house that has been renovated carefully. The owners are very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our visit very much.

United StatesIt was very difficult to find a place to park. Luckily we were able to find a private parking lot close by that allowed us to park our car for two nights at an affordable rate.
Such a cute guest house! The family was so kind and welcoming. We loved how close it was to the town, shops, restaurants, and castle.

United KingdomFinding the property using google maps is a bit difficult, however, the hosts helped us park and took us to the house. Driving in this town is not easy.
We loved the location, the views were stunning and the people made our stay very special. Thank you so much for your hospitality and kindness. This property and the bedrooms are beautiful. Highly recommend staying here.

PolandHard to say, we really loved staying there. But some things that could be improved: The shower in our room had the water „going everywhere” like, the water was not focused in one direction. Black coffee for breakfast They only accept cash for payment
We stayed in the room with the nice ceiling and it looks exactly like in the pictures. The room is beautiful, very clean, bed and pillows are comfortable. There is a mini fridge in the room as well. The bathroom had disposable shower cap and amenities kit which was nice. The view is amazing really! Unlike other people here in the reviews, we found the stay pretty easily. It is very hilly as they say, but the whole little town is hilly, so it is hard to avoid that :) overall, it was a nice little walk to the castle, the bazar, skenduli house etc. The breakfast was really good, missing just black coffee.

BelgiumMy advice is that you try to book the largest room (29 m²) on the second floor. Not only because it's the most beautiful but mainly for another reason. The floor and ceiling in the house are made of wood. If you stay in the room on the 1st floor and someone walks around into the room above you that same night, you will hear very clearly above your head every step that person takes. On my third morning I met the man who stayed on the 2nd floor and he seemed to me to be a very calm and quiet person. Yet in the evening it literally 'thundered' above my head. Simply the disadvantage of the wooden floors. My first two nights no one stayed there and I found it extremely quiet in Belaj's House. Strange that no one else mentioned this in the reviews. Actually, the hosts should make their guests on the 2nd floor aware of this, since this is not immediately clear to them. --- It is also positive that there's hardly any noise from outside. In the distance I could hear some music from the bazaar.
Belaj’s House is a very nice, old and restored building in traditional style and beautifully situated on a higher location with a view of the castle. The rooms are neat, look particularly charming and are very comfortable. I stayed in the 20m² room on the 1st floor with two single beds. The room with a double bed on the 2nd floor is even more beautiful. The ceiling and the murals there give you the impression that you’re staying in a museum. The abundance of wood in both rooms provides a pleasant atmosphere. However, the house is quite difficult to find. With a taxi or with a rental car, you will not be able to drive right up to the door. No idea where the car can be parked at night ... I travelled by public transport. From the bus station you can take a city bus to the old town. However, neither the name of the house nor that of the street are known to anyone in the old town. You will have to call the phone number that you’re given with your booking and ask how to get there or possibly arrange to meet someone at an easy to find place nearby (that's how it went for me). The last 20 metres the street goes steeply uphill and the road surface is in very bad condition. Be careful at night. All contact was by phone with a man who spoke English very fluently and was very friendly and helpful. You can also ask him questions by email via the booking.com site. The answer always came very quickly. I had the impression that this person was always online. However, I never met him. An older couple lives in Belaj's House itself. The lady of the couple and (presumably) their daughter take you to the room, take care of breakfast and the bill when you check out. These ladies and the older gentleman only speak Albanian. For every question that you cannot ask in Albanian, you will have to call or email the other man. But as I said, the answer always came very quickly. The breakfast was very ample and varied. The bathroom was functionally furnished, modern and...

NetherlandsThe breakfast was poor. Cheap White bread. No choice of breakfast or eggs. The omelet was nearly cold. Sickly sweet jam. Orange jus from a carton. Salty cheese. To get coffee or black tea was a problem a second cup at all. A few pieces of cucumber and, by the way, delicious meloen, and that was it. I had different expectations for a guesthouse in this price category, at least it could have been homemade.
I never saw such a beautiful hotelroom. The walls and ceiling were with historical painting. It was amazing! The Room was very big and spotless clean. It had a good shower. Very kind ladys who owned the house. Lovely terras unfortunately with uncomfortabele bistro chairs

We loved our stay at Belaj house. A beautiful Ottoman house tastefully refurbished preserving the charming character of the property and its luxury. The location is perfect, just above the bazaar in the old quarter. The view of the castle from the windows and the terrace is mesmerising. The owners are lovely and very welcoming, they showed us around the property and the treated us to a delicious and very generous breakfast (the best we had in Albania). We highly recommend this property and we look forward to staying there when visiting again Gjirokaster!
