Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.

I like this hotel. Location is good. It is close Westbounhof station. It is cheap and safety. You can stay in confidently.

I do not have any complaints considering that this was a value for money property.
The room was quite large and very close to wien westbahnhof. It had plenty of supermarkets and restaurants within a walking distance. The basics were present in the kitchen. The common area was right outside the room shared by 3 rooms so that was very convenient.

The place could use some serious reservation, but then again it's also way cheaper than staying at a hotel and we spent the day in the city. Everything worked, it's just outdated. Our bed was new and comfy which is a great plus!
The location is great, staff was nice, the place served it's purpose.

Nice stay within the city. The building is a bit aged and the facilities too. But clean warm rooms. Clean toilet. Good for one night stay. We booked two rooms. It was a pleasant stay.

The bedding was dusty, dated and pillows had seen better days. We didn’t sleep very well because of allergies to the dust - but it was ok for one night and for the price
Great value, welcoming staff and good location. We had a lovely bright homely and sunny room.

If there are three people in the room there is little space for luggage.
Great location, lovely neighbourhood. Well connected by public transport. Quiet street. Friendly staff. Decent size room.

Our room had a strange smell, but on our last day, we had the chance to see the other rooms, and they didn’t have any unpleasant odors. I suppose we just had bad luck with our room.
I stayed in what felt like a shared apartment, with my single room sharing a bathroom and kitchen with two other rooms. Everything was exceptionally clean and organized. The kitchen was fully equipped, making it perfect for preparing meals, and the bathroom was spotless, complete with complimentary toiletries. The location was fantastic—close to a metro station and a bus stop, providing quick access to the city center and major attractions. The staff was incredibly friendly, spoke fluent English (which was very helpful), and even lent me a hairdryer during my stay. Overall, a comfortable and convenient experience!

The services of Happy Hostel are all good except they cannot control the way of other users keeping the WC clean.
The room and the shared kitchen were well-cleaned when I arrived. Even my room faces the street but the quiet and clean neighbourhood provide a comfortable and relex vibe during my stay. The shared kitchen provides all homeware,microwave and cultry to use. The WC is cleaned by the team but the cleanliness depends on the other shared users throughout the day. The elevator is the most amazing facility I appreciate even I use the spiral staircases the most. Just 5 minutes walk from Westbahnhof Station and there are two supermarkets, a Lidl and a Hofer, just opposite to the station. It is a good city walk from the Westbahnhof Station to the Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien, around 35 minutes, and you can enjoy the well-preserved building and modern shops on the journey. Highly recommendation to you if you would like to experience more like a local in Vienna in Happy Hostel!

Pillows were not so comfy, very flat/saggy making it slightly difficult to sleep at times.
Helpful staff with good knowledge of local attractions and logistics. Nice communal spaces and good sized rooms.

I was unlucky with noisy neighbors but I asked them to keep noise down and they really were helpful
The positive energy of the receptionist when I arrived in the evening, clean showers and toilet, the hostel has a very good value for the money

The water heater outside the room was very loud.

One issue I faced is that all the doors of rooms, alleys and main door had the same key. To me personally it felt like a safety/ privacy concern as even after booking a private room my room was accessible to everyone with any key. At night and during day people accidently came in our room with their own room's key. Also the reception was not always open. I couldn't find anyone to complaint about the wifi not working all night. Also I had to inform them of our late checkout due to a tour we had, but no one was available at the reception. When we came back from our tour, they already cleared all our luggage from the room and checked us out because they had one early check in. We were not informed about this in advance. And all our belongings were stored in a cupboard. For the cost it is a good option. But keep other things in mind while booking. As a couple we wished we had some privacy in our private room
Conveniently located, right next to a major transport hub. Easy transportation. Clear instructions. Good private room with all amenities in the room. Even a complete kitchen. Good heating system. Even the bathroom and toilet were well heated. A number of brochures and guide books were available at the reception about vienna tourism.
