Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United Kingdombecause some people showed their disrespect to a hostel and got 9/10 in terms of cleanness. If it is warm/hot outside, expect a similar temperature inside (at least if you are on a top floor)
Amazing price, and even better support, help, guide, and just outstanding staff who strive to help you in each and every case. You can deposit 50€ to get .only ticket and pay 4€ per day, and then they will return you the remaining money(depending on how many days you will use this ticket). Reasonable price for food, good quality and beautifully served food, good taste good quality. Nice courtyard is also a top-notch for this hostel. Bathrooms are the best I have ever seen before in hostels for such a price. Try it, and I will want to return to this hostel. It was one of the best experiences so far, so I highly recommend it for you, no, really you should try it and won't regret it, believe me. The kitchen has some food other people leave, so even if you are hungry and on a low budget, you still can cook something from that free shelf. One of the best lovation in terms of public transport is extremely easy to get to and travel across the city

United KingdomNothing! No complaints here!!
- extremely clean - bed very comfortable and clean linens provided - volunteers/staff were very friendly and helpful - location is just minutes (walking) from central tram lines, train stations and buses. - the bar was good for socialising but closed early so happily no noise/lager lout issues; the complimentary lemonade was delicious! - rooms, lockers and building felt secure, important for me as a female solo traveller.

It was amazing, I will stay here for the nest time as well, location a little far from city center but overall it is not a big deal. Super clean, very comfy beds, quite neighborhood, shared baths and toilers are clean as well and enough for not be in a queue, very beautiful garden, so yeah, it is my location for the next stays in Vienna.

EstoniaThere are no curtains on the bunk beds, so there is a lack of privacy if you are looking for at least that in a hostel. Shower rooms were most of the time really small and with no ventilation.
Great location, staff is very friendly. There is a good vibe, rooms are spacious and you can open your locker and door using the same access card, which is a huge plus. The bar is affordable! The bed is comfortable and with good bedding sheets

CanadaThe thing that I disliked the most about this hostel was the location. The staff insisted that the hotel was central as it was between the center and Schonburnn Palace. I'm not sure how the Viennese define "central", but in my books, a 40 minute walk (and a 20 minute transit trip) to the center of the city is not central by any means. If you're someone who prefers walking to taking public transit (to be able to see more of the city), going back to the hostel at any point in the day to rest becomes somewhat out of the question given the trek (unless of course you use public transit). I also found the wifi and reception to be spotty in my room, but this may have been different in the main building.
I booked a female only dorm (in a separate building) and it was MASSIVE. The lockers were rather small though (could fit one small carry-on) and were a bit difficult to get stuff in and out of. Many of the roommates opted to keep their luggage on the floor as a result. The bathroom and shower were outside of the room, which was nice, as that minimized disruptions. While I didn't socialize much with others, the hostel had a fantastic social vibe with communal dinners (pay-as-you-wish) that I joined one evening. The hostel also provides (monthly) transit passes for 4 euros a day, which was great considering one ticket was 2.60, so if you used the transit more than once that day, you were already breaking even on the cost. If you like access to a garden/courtyard, the main building also had one that seemed rather pleasant during the daytime.

EstoniaThe shower right next to my bedroom was tiny, kinda hard to move around. Gladly I could use other showers around the hostel.
Hostel is in a great and convenient location, you can walk or take the metro anywhere in Vienna. The room was very spacious and I appreciated they had a table and chairs in the room. The lockers worked with the same card you use to open the room door, so very convenient. I didn't use the kitchen or laundry but they have it and seem to be well equipped. I liked that the hostel organizes activities for guests, I didn't participate in any but it's nice for those who like it. The showers were good and the bathrooms were always clean. If I go back to Vienna, I will definitely stay at this hostel again.

FranceThe only thing that slightly bothered me was that I was in a top bunk and the space between the floor and the first step of the ladder was too high. I'm 5'3 and I felt like I was pole vaulting myself into bed every night. But it's the tiniest thing.
This is one of the best hostels, if not the best hostel, I have ever stayed in. Everything was spotless. I stayed in a female dorm that had six beds and there was so much space, we weren't cramped in a tiny space, and it was lovely. The ensuite bathroom with rain shower was fantastic. The hostel definitely has a social vibe (communal dinners, daily activities, bar...) but it doesn't feel like a party hostel either, just like-minded people enjoying traveling and meeting each other. (It helped that everyone was lovely) The staff was lovely. I loved the garden, the common areas, the key card-activated lockers...Everything was impeccable. I would definitely stay again.

United KingdomMaybe booked at a popular time so it was expensive. Despite booking in deluxe dorm which included towel and toiletries, this wasn't offered this right away at check-in. Some restaurants and bars nearby but have to take the underground to get into the historic center (20 minutes) or trendier districts.
Hostel Ruthensteiner deserves it's high score and lived up to expectations in terms of comfort and having a sociable atmosphere. Stayed in one of the deluxe female dorms, this was spacious and had an en-suite shower room with a fantastic shower. It was on the ground floor so didn't have good views and was a bit dark. Imagine a room on higher floor would have more light. It has plenty of communal areas where you can hang out including a bar which is open in the evening and there is a pleasant garden. This means that it can be more sociable than other hostels with limited communal areas. They have a happy hour at the bar between 7-9pm and do a pay as you want meal every evening at 8pm which was popular.

GermanyHonestly, I cannot complain about anything! I had a very good time. Thank you so much!
Definitely the BEST HOSTEL I stayed in so far!!! Absolute recommendation, I will come back! I stayed in a girls room (6 beds): + very friendly workers + WhatsApp Group with daily information about activities, dinner and organisation + free lockers for arrival and after check-out + very nice rooms with comfortable beds, lamps and plug sockets next to each bed, very clean, NO bed bugs! + big lockers inside the room (big backpack fits inside) + electronic key cards for doors and individual lockers + very clean and modern bathroom with separate WC and rain shower (hotel vibes) + free water and lemonade at the entry for everyone day and night + big kitchen with everything you need, clean + laundry room with several washing machines and dryers + nice lobby with guitars and piano + dining room, cool bar and nice garden + yummy breakfast menu every morning like in a Café + VERY SOCIAL HOSTEL and perfect for solo travellers, activities every day + TIP BASED DINNER every night at 8 pm! Good food and also good opportunity to meet new people, eat and drink together and play games + good location! I felt very safe although I'm a solo female traveller, the area is lively and safe and you can walk from Mariahilfer Street to the city center (30 minutes) or to the Schönbrunn Palace (20 minutes) or take the tram + many supermarkets (Penny, BILLA, LIDL), drug store (dm) and restaurants near hostel

United KingdomIt’s not cheap, but neither is Europe, so perhaps there’s not too much to be said there.
This was the 27th hostel I’ve stayed in this year, and I can honestly say I was blown away with how social it was without being a party hostel. Immaculate vibe. I had a brilliant time in this city and it’s thanks for the people I met in this hostel. Family dinners, great facilities and comfortable.
