Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

Relaxed and comfy mezzanine common area. Great buffet breakfast and 24/7 tea/coffee. Central location. Push bikes available for guest use were a great way to get my bearings in the city.

We arrived after midnight due to a delayed flight. The manager, C, was outstanding both on the phone when I called the day of and when we arrived. Late checkout was offered and we gratefully accepted. The room was nice, with a good shower, and a comfy bed. Continental breakfast was included which made the morning easier.

The boutique feel, the fabulous location, the thoughtful attention to detail in catering to a diverse clientele, the artwork….. the kitchenette available at all times; for filtered coffee, a variety of teas, milks, healthy juices …. just everything about The Alex!

It was quite loud at night and the balcony was too small to use in my opinion. Would be nice to also have a fridge amenity in the room. Also the coffee counter was not open at 10 am on a Sunday which I was surprised I also got charged more than advertised which I’m not sure why?
The bed was comfy and design of the room is cool :) service was great at front desk also.

two little seats on the balcony would have been preferred. No room tea making facilities was a challenge as we like a late night cuppa and ditto early morning - having to dress and navigate bringing two cups of tea back to our room was something we didn't enjoy ( this is a minimal annoyance and wouldn't preclude me from staying at the Alex again ) Upon arrival the use of the mezzanine floor fridge and facilities should have been explained esp the availability of bottled and filtered water
Loved the availability of both bottled and filtered water as well as complimentary fruits tea? coffee. The mezzanine floor is welcome and comfortable as is the bar area esp with books & games. my little balcony was great too

The only thing I thought was a negative, was the size of the rooms. They felt smaller than those advertised and the balcony can only fit one chair on it.
The free breakfast for everyone is an amazing plus. The location of the hotel is also so close to the train station, it makes it so easy to get to anywhere in the city. The hotel also felt very safe, with the gates closing to the hotel from early in the evening, so people need a card key for entry.
