Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaAfter a few days in the cold and wet exploring the beautiful hilly streets of Hobart - my partner and I returned to the cozy and comforting hallway entrance of The Astor Hotel. The interiors were filled with flowers and quirky furnishings; it felt like it was styled to be in a Wes Anderson movie. The receptionists were also very warm and welcoming. They shared with us some history of the place which only added to the charm. Location, price, room size, and amenities were all GREAT 👍 Thank you, we'll be back!

ChinaThis is a particularly good hotel. The boss and staff are very warm and the service is very good. I especially like the classical decoration style in the hotel, and there are many lily flowers, which smell very comfortable. The room makes me feel like home, comfortable and warm. It is highly recommended for friends who come to Hobart to stay.

AustraliaBeing near Macquarie st there is the inevitable traffic noise but it’s not a big deal. We have ear plugs which worked well.
The Astor Hotel exceeded our expectations in more ways than one. We booked 3 nights and ended up extending our stay. It doesn’t feel ‘commercially run’ - it’s such a personal touch and the owners are really kind, generous and warm-hearted people who are in the business for the love of it all. It’s rare to find that nowadays. We slept really well every night and enjoyed the breakfast which at $5/person was really good value. Thank you, Tildy and Neil! Our bicycles enjoyed their stay too having an entire room to themselves. We have found our favorite hotel in Hobart and will certainly be back!

United StatesI didn’t like that I couldn’t bring it home with me.
A low-key, one-of-a-kind vintage hotel, staying at the Astor was a highlight of my trip to Hobart.

United KingdomNothing - loved it all
If you want a bit of a trip back in time that matches the Hobart vibe then this is the place to stay. Tildy is very welcoming and goes out of her way to make sure everything is right. The Astor Grill on the ground floor is superb but very popular so it's probably best to book direct in advance. If you use the Skybus from the airport get off at Stop 4.

AustraliaThere was nothing I didn't like. Everything is clean, with a very nice atmosphere. It is adorned in a very peculiar way. I really loved it.
My experience has been incredible, the hotel is incredible, but what makes it more special are the owners who are always looking out for you, always with good humor and enthusiasm. You feel right at home. I'm from Mexico and it was something I really missed. a warmth of home. And here I found it. Definitely one of my favorite places.

CroatiaNothing to complain!
For my stay down town Hobart, I could choose more modern accommodation, but I purposely wanted to book this hotel, as it seemed quite charming & totally different than your typical big-hotel chain. And once more, my choice was correct - two lovely people run this hotel, with excellent sense of humor, and I enjoyed my stay very much. The room was extremely spacious, with far more space that I required. Location of hotel was perfect for my requirements, as I wanted to walk & explore downtown Hobart as much as possible.

AustraliaA TV or access to a TV in my down time would have been nice but I certainly wouldn't mark the establishment down for this. There was nothing else I didn't like about my stay here.
It's like stepping back in time. I love these sort of old places...they have ambience unlike the super sanitary modern buildings. The location was perfect for everything I needed to do for that weekend. The room was comfy and quiet and super clean. The continental breakfast was as good as any and a cheap start to the day.
