Only minor issue is day parking - you'll need to look around as there isn't anything available near-by during the day. The propritor has suggestions, but there are paid car parks within 1km.

Gorgeous and quirky presentation. Lovely service with someone who clearly cares about the building and business. THey offer a very basic (and very cheap) breakfast option. The location is perfect with comfortable walking distance to the harbour front shops and eatieries, museums and markets.

Nothing could be better, it’s excellent value for the cost.

I love staying at the Astor! Tildy and Neil went above and beyond to make me feel welcome and accomodate my requests. The shared bathrooms are super clean, it’s fabulous budget accommodation.

The 1830 ‘s lift old style , so chose the stairs and walked up with heavy luggage to reception on first floor about 20 steps -if I knew before I arrived I would have put my luggage in lift and picked it up on first level , it was as simple as that - and that’s what I did when I left

Warm friendly homely greeting from the amazing colourful couple that reside in and manage this one of a kind boutique hotel , they were more than happy to be of service in any way , the boutique hotel was decorated in an eclectic style , almost biographical of a by gone era , with luxurious coloured velvet feel carpets , beautiful paintings and decor , fresh flowers throughout , and a lovely communal lounge if you want to connect with others .- breakfast simple but adequate , will definitely return to same place to these lovely hosts .

This is a very quaint, personable, family run hotel, right in the heart of Hobart. A wonderful place to stay, if you are looking for a more historic experience in such a beautiful location. Just a stones throw from Salamanca Place, we had a very enjoyable stay and can't wait to go back again. Landlady, Tildy also adds to the experience with her wit, vibrancy and local knowledge. I would not hesitate to recommend the Astor Hotel to anyone wanting to enjoy the real Hobart vibe.

At times the road was noisy

Spacious rooms, central location, very clean, excellent common space. The period style of the building and the artefacts on display are stunning.

The Astor Hotel is a fabulous place to stay in Hobart. Great location and olde world charm. The hosts, Neil and Tilly, were wonderful, greeting me like an old friend. Facilities were excellent. Close to the Waterfront and Salamanca Square.

Wasn't anything that was a problem.

We thought this hotel was fantastic, it is a step into the past of 1920's or 1930's hotel accommodation. This is what we were expecting and enjoyed it immensely. However, if you are someone who expects a heated pool and 24hr room service this hotel is probably not for you, It is a time capsule of an earlier period spectacularly well maintained and in a central location where most of Hobart CBD and the port area is a short walk away. The owners of the hotel make up the staff and are very friendly and were very helpful accommodating any of our requests. As an aside the restaurant located on the ground floor "The Astor Grill" is not associated with the hotel, but the meal we enjoyed there was brilliant, great food and excellent service while maintaining the "old world" feel of the whole building.... highly recommended. We would definitely return to The Astor Private Hotel when next in Hobart.

If you are looking for multi-international, high-end, overpriced and soulless accomondation, don´t come here. If you are looking for value for money and a place with humanity, colourfullness, personality, history, stories, encounters and great hosts, you have it in Astor.

As the hotel is very classic, there is no elevator (but there is a lift for luggage, which is cute and fun!).

Very classic hotel, start operating in 1922, as I heard. Lovely, kind and very nice owners. Good location! No air conditioning, but there is a big fan on the sealing, and it worked well when it was hot weather. I didn’t have a chance to try, but there is a classic fabulous restaurant located on the ground floor., and it looked popular for local people.
