Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomThis charming, quiet hostel is conveniently located within walking distance of all that Cairns has to offer. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the kitchen was well-equipped. While the room was basic, it was comfortable. The hostel felt more secure and peaceful compared to others I’ve stayed at in Cairns. There are good laundry facilities, though the lack of dryers makes drying clothes during the rainy season a bit challenging. Overall would highly recommend & great value for money (compared to other Cairns hostels)!

The Hostel is in a very easy-to-access place, and super organised, the other mates were very nice and respectful with the quiet time, very clean and there is a nice pool with heaps of chairs and puffs to rest up. The manager is simply amazing! Extremely helpful with everything needed during my stay. Highly recommended!

ColombiaExcellent place to stay, probably the best I had in my whole trip around Australia. It was a quiet place but very conveniently located just steps away from the bus/train station. It serves a perfect amount of guests, not few so you can't meet people, but not many so it feels cramped. It also has several toilets, kitchens and common rooms distributed around the house, so it helps. But what shines the most about this place is their owners, the kindness and good will they put when interacting with the guests and helping them with every need they might have. Thanks for all your help!

FranceSuper nice stay at Dreamtime. Perfectely situated just next to the railway station and a supermarket, only few minutes from the city centre. Very beautiful place with a calm pool, peaceful place, very nice decorated. Everything was very clean and the kitchen is very well equiped. There is enough space for all guests in two kitchens and more showers. Paul and Tim are super nice and give a lot of useful tips and recommendations. We prolonged our stay and stayed 2 more nights. Thank you! Definitely recommended.

AustraliaI had a great stay at this hostel in Cairns City. It’s about a 15-minute walk to the Reef Magic Terminal and around 7 minutes to the Cairns Shopping Center. The area feels safe, and the staff, as well as other guests, are very friendly. The facilities are clean and well-maintained. It was my first time using a bedside air conditioner, and while it was a bit noisy, I had my earplugs, so it wasn’t an issue.

United KingdomThere seemed to be a shortage of toilets and bathrooms, only one of each upstairs. In the end it wasn't a problem but that's because the hostel wasn't full. From my dorm it was quite a walk to the loo, through the kitchen and public areas, so not great if you want to go in the middle of the night. Reception closes early. As I didn't arrive until late, I wasn't able to get a towel. Good job I'd already had a shower.
Attractive, quirky place with lots of comfy corners for hanging out. I chose a bed in a 4 bed female dorm and we were only 2 that night so it was perfect. Great location opposite the station so not far to walk for buses and trains. Lovely and quiet at night.

United KingdomThe only thing to note is that the air conditioning is coin operated. Thankfully the staff left us a coin to use when we first arrived so we were able to cool down a bit. But three hours is $1. You can stack these so you end up with continuous aircon but come prepared as we had no change on the first night apart from what the staff had kindly left us.
Really friendly staff and good location. Nice chill hostel.

AustraliaDreamhouse Hostel is a great and quiet little hoste in the heart of Cairns City. Tim the manager is a nice guy, great to deal with and makes the place feel secure, he had also upgraded my initial booking out of kindness which was awesome after being on the travel for some time and needing and wanting chill and comfort. 10/10 service, cleanliness, clean kitchen and utensils, etc. cute and cosy gardens. One of the best hostels I've stayed in around the world. Will definitely stay here again!

United KingdomJust a lot of mosquitos around so keep applying buy spray.
Clean room and was upgraded from a shared female dorm room to a private double room which was really appreciated. Owner left some coins to operate the A/C on my first night which was nice. Good pool to cool down in. Washing machine and free racks to hang your wet clothes on. Very quiet place and a nice vibe throughout.

ItalyIt would have been great if there were some more tables for having meals. The few tables there were already occupied most of the time which made it a bit less comfortable to eat, without having a table.
Great location, lovely helpful staff and a very nice atmosphere. Good kitchen(s) and showers as well!

TurkeyOne recommendation I have is to add small lockers under each bed (with keys) for personal items in sharing rooms. The only other thing is, maybe it’s just a personal preference, but I found the pillows too soft and small for my liking—though others might actually prefer them that way.
Initially booked this hostel for three days, but the atmosphere was so wonderful and relaxing that I ended up staying for nearly a month. There are no bunk beds—just regular beds—so it feels much more comfortable. Almost every room has its own fridge, and there are plenty of bathrooms and kitchens available, the place also very clean which adds to overall comfort. The garden is incredibly peaceful; you might not even want to leave once you settle in. There’s also a cool common area on the second-floor balcony with a red sofa where I spent most of my time. This is definitely not the typical party hostel full of loud drinking or drugs. Whenever I came in, people were meditating, doing yoga, reading, painting, or writing. If you’re looking for a party-all-night vibe, this may not be the place for you. The guests here have a different energy—more mature, quiet, and respectful. It’s also a very safe choice for solo female travelers. Another unique aspect is that the owners are often at reception, which makes the place feel safer, and they address any issues immediately. However, if you’re a digital nomad, be aware that the internet can be spotty in some rooms—especially in rooms 6 and 7, where it doesn’t reach at all. Even a Telstra hotspot wasn’t sufficient there. The internet in room 19 was much better, and it’s very good in the common areas. But working in the common area during the summer without air conditioning can be tough due to the heat. In the winter, though, it could be a great environment for digital nomads. It might be even better if they added two or three small coworking or meeting areas in the garden—then it would be a digital nomad’s paradise. They’ve created an incredibly peaceful atmosphere overall. If you’re looking for a calm, relaxing place rather than a party hostel, this is a wonderful place to stay. If you visit Cairns, don’t bother looking anywhere else!

Gorgeous place and fantastic staff. The rooms are well ventilated, each with an air conditioner. The pool felt like a little oasis. Everything is kept very clean and there are many areas and zones to hang out as well as several kitchens so it never feels too crowded.
