When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

No communal bathrooms besides the ensuite ones, which isn't great for a room with 8 people.
The Kitchen was huge and really clean. It was nice that there was always something going on downstairs in the bar/club.

Very good location, right in the center. Large kitchen with good equipment. Rooms were a bit small but fine. Staff was always friendly and helpful. Definitely a good decision to spend your stay in Cairns there

This hostel is just awesome! It's very social and easy to make friends, but it's still pretty clean. The only problem is it's quite noisy until around 4 am cause of the night club and the bar. But other than that perfect for staying in Cairns and making friends!

Just feeling old amongst so many young foreign backpackers lol. But I got over it. Parking was a headache, but can be managed.
Great facility, but I did get caught out with it being called Gilligan's "Hotel & Resort". From what I saw it's a high end backpackers with with premium rooms available (where I was). Gilligans has pretty much everything you need to have a good time.

No AC in shared kitchen, it was VERY hot trying to cook. No luggage storage locker in room. Party downstairs was so loud it was audible with the doors shut in our room.
AC in room. Individual beds instead of bunk. Separate shower and toilet. Shared kitchen was large and on each level. Amenities and poolside bat were nice.

2 one-day stays either side of the liveaboard. Night 1 all good but the mold was horrifically bad. Night 2 next door but closer to weekend the volume level of bar was very loud. They did provide ear plugs. I was supposed to have female room. It was mean (senior female) and 3 hunky young males (younger than my sons)

No bathrooms or toilets outside the rooms.
Easy to meet people, book tours. I book a 8 female room and we were only 4 some nights. Calm and quiet in the room (we don’t hear the music )

The aircon was not up to par. Could have it on the coldest setting we could get and we would still sweat up a storm sleeping.

Although I loved the club, I was on the first floor so could hear the music and the people very loudly. They do offer earplugs but there’s only so far to go when you’re mixing alcohol and young people
I liked that it was in the centre, near the greyhound. It was great that it had its only club and bar, the pool was really nice and the rooms were decently sized with en-suites which was great!

Entry to nightclub for big events should be included in price of stay and residents shouldn't have to join main queue.
We had a nice stay in Gilligan's in Cairns which was the first stop on our East Coast road trip. The staff were super helpful and friendly when checking in and out. The kitchen was well equipped and well laid out. Gilligan's location means that it is easy to explore the town and it's short distance to the harbour meant that we were able to walk down to the terminal where our day trip to the Great Barrier Reef departed from.

Heard a few negative things prior to our arrival so we cut our stay short and went somewhere else. Upon arrive there was 2 girls already staying in our room and they had stuff everywhere, all over our clean beds, sides, bathroom and balcony. Appreciate this Is hostel life but this probably didn't help in selling it to me. Room was OK, beds comfy just lacking plug sockets for most of the beds, bit grubby, bathroom/shower door wouldn't lock and the shower screen wouldn't close and there was a resident cockroach behind the bathroom mirror. The aircon was actually broken but this was actually in my favour as on the top bunk It would have blown directly onto me. The entertainment wasn't as loud as people told.us and we weren't disturbed massively by the noise (we were on the 4th floor at tne back) but the bar was reasonably quiet, I assume this is not the case In busy season. Recommended parking was expensive.
