Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

AustraliaRooms are run down, food average, no air con, no fly screens, overpriced for what you get. 5 star prices for 2-3 star resort.
The convenience of the snorkeling, island feel - secluded, lounge/bar area great. Feels like you’re living in a dream looking at the water. Love listening to the birds at night.

AustraliaThe humidity was somewhat opressive (to be expected in late November). An airconditioned unit or waterfront unit would have been better (both are higher cost and availability is an issue) Telstra's payphone was out of order for the whole 6 days we were there.
The location!! The Barrier Reef is fabulous and this island delivers the goods. A very relaxing break. The marine biologist (Katy) was an excellent entertaining guide for the whole environment; everything from birds, turtles, and fish. It was awesome to watch turtle nesting with her. The boat to the edge of the reef for snorkelling was fantastic. Staff were very helpful responding to a dietary requirement. Washing machine and dryer are available free of charge The research station tour by Stuart (the head of the Uni of Queensland Research Station) was fabulous.

AustraliaMust go on a tour to kayak round island, getting used to the smells and sounds of thousands of birds, being woken at all hours by screeching birds
Great snorkelling, plenty of reef sharks, shovel nose sharks, sting rays and geat variety of fish. Watching turtles lay eggs and return to water.

AustraliaNot having a choice regarding the food. I would like an a la carte option even on buffet nights.
This is the second time I’ve been to Heron Island and I loved my stay, just as much as the first time. This time I traveled alone, and it’s a great time for solo travelers - there’s so much to do - especially if you love snorkeling, nature & photography. The only thing. I’m not a fan of buffets - I’m vegetarian and eat small meals so don’t get value for money. The restaurant at Heron Island have some buffet nights and some A La Carte. But overall I had a great time and I would highly recommend for anyone - from families to solo travelers.

United KingdomAccommodation was a bit run-down and in need of a refresh; compulsory (and only real option) fixed price evening buffet which was mediocre at best; the restaurant offered a la carte light meals at lunch time - why not in the evening - or even alternatively offer same in the bar; only food offering in the bar was a meagre selection of sandwiches (often choice of one only) and soon ran out. Biggest gripe was the additional charge for breakfast coffee for any coffee other than instant - so unnecessary.
Fantastic location and very friendly staff; snorkelling trips and activities well organised

NetherlandsConsidering the price, the resort could benefit from a good renovation. Dinner is buffet only for $50 pp. This was really below par. The simple a la carte lunch menu was a lot better, perhaps it would be better to offer the price including dinner (half board), now people feel cheated. There should also certainly be more love and quality in the preparation of breakfast and dinner. Also make the price including transfer by ferry.
The island is unique and incredibly beautiful. It was the bird breeding season so expect tens of thousands of birds with their poop and therefore smell, but that is just part of their island. Based on the reviews, we didn’t expect luxury in the resort. The room was basic but clean and with new sheets and new towels. All staff extremely kind and helpful.

AustraliaThe dinners at $50 a head was over the top. The first night the food was ordinary. The drinks were really expensive as well. I paid $18 for a glass of Chardonnay.
Breakfast was good though lacked variety. The scenery is spectacular. The entertainment was great.

AustraliaThe smell of the birds is very overwhelming but it is their home so you have to appreciate that they have the run of the island. It’s their island we’re just the guests lol. There needs to be a better menu at the restaurant and more snack options available to purchase anytime. The buffet is $50 each person per night and quite expensive for what it is. Also the tea and coffee supplies in the rooms need to be topped up daily as we ran out.
The island is extremely beautiful. Really easy to get around and lots of walking tracks in between to shortcut going from side to side.

United KingdomNo guidance on sea sickness in pre-arrival info or opportunity to purchase tablets at their port and staff their just rudely told us everyone knows sea crossings can be rough but literally everyone else checking in ahead of us was in the same position with no tablets so clearly the majority of people didn’t consider this. The result was many people sick on a rough crossing and not a good start to what was otherwise an outstanding island experience. No key policy on bedroom doors or safe provided in room which left us feeling slightly uncomfortable going out as we had cash and valuables with us.
Exceptional location and ambience. Staff were friendly and helpful. Room was clean and spacious. Unbelievable island experience in terms of snorkelling, sharks, rays and turtles we saw. Brittany the tour guide for various island walks was very knowledgable and passionate about her job.

AustraliaOnly option being buffet dinner. This is very misleading, on the website it indicates you can do a buffet or ala carte. Not true, buffet only. Price for buffet for kids was reasonable, for adults probably a bit high, although it is obviously very remote so is going to cost more than usual. From the website "When the day is done, enjoy meals that cater to all tastes served as either a specialty buffet selection or à la carte dinner menu. "
Beautiful location, amazing wildlife. Rooms clean enough, although getting a little tired. Didn't matter though, its all about the water and snorkelling. Kids loved the buffet breakfast!

AustraliaAs other reviews mention, the rooms are very basic. Our reef room had a very limited/no view of the reef/beach, but it was absolutely fine for sleeping. Let’s be fair - you’re going to spend all day outdoors anyway. The lunchtime options are quite chips/burger/fries heavy, with a bit of a lack of healthy options, so we ended up eating the same salad on a daily. I was also surprised about the frequent use of canned fruit on a tropical island. $50pp for the buffet style dinner was definitely overpriced given the quality of food, but overall okay for a few days.
The island is absolutely stunning with its crystal clear waters, abundance of marine life and beautiful beaches. We spent all day in the waters around the island diving and snorkelling, taking in the insane numbers of turtles, rays and reef sharks. The resort is clean and well maintained with friendly staff. If you come here for the pristine reef and location, you’re in the right place.
