Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

AustraliaThe USB charger didn’t work for us & the cottage got a bit smoky but possibly both issues (which were minor) were due to user error!
We loved the rustic little cottage! Very peaceful & with gorgeous outlook. Was so nice having an open fire. Kitchen had all you need (though do bring ice) & bathroom was better than expected. Highly recommend if you’re not fussy & want a country getaway.

AustraliaSome creature noises at night--shared bathroom ok. Glamping nearby is pretty groovy.
Gorgeous spot in the Chewton Bushlands surrounded by birds, kangaroos, and a lovely black labrador who wanders around. We had endless hikes, peace and quiet, rest, and proximity to all that is Castlemaine. Very comfy, no 240volt so adapted to battery phone charge, LED lights, worm fed toilets, very eco !! Loved it.

AustraliaThere could have been more instructions around the place like how to use the usb charger and how to build a fire if you didn’t already know. The ambience fire was hard to get going - even for ambience, but the barrel fire was great - it really kept the place warm. I’m glad we didn’t have any glampers nearby because we would have heard them using the bathroom. It took a while for the “untrusting” me to accept there were no locks on the doors and that we and our things would be safe. But everything was very safe.
We loved that we were off grid in such peaceful surrounds. The cottage was surprisingly warm considering the weather outside. And was cute with everything you needed. We really felt like we had gotten away from it all. We did get to see some kangas come nearby. It was good to know Paul was only a phone call away if we ran into trouble.

AustraliaA few items could do with a clean (utensils and benches) and the single bed is very squeaky.
The Rustic Miners Cabin lived up to its name - it was fabulously rustic! Overall the properly was very well maintained, with beautiful views, especially from the couch on the front verandah. The cabin is beautifully crafted with stone and mud walls, timber roof and stone floors. All the decor fit into the miners theme and were a feast for the eyes.

AustraliaI appreciate that I knew in advance that I would have to pay for firewood, but, $40 was way too much for me, so, I was just very, very cold. But, I did know in advance, so it wasn't a surprise, but, I would have appreciated enough wood for one fire to be included.
Very cute and beautifully appointed cabin in stunning location.

AustraliaBYO bedding means even pillows and blankets/ doona not just linen. I either assumed or didn't read properly. Just an FYI.
As advertised, a quaint bush cottage with enough facilities for a comfortable stay - LED lights were a bonus. Great location - away from town but close, on owner's property but private. Lovely to have Paul introduce himself then leave you to enjoy. Kookaburras and parrots galore. Shared bathroom with a glamping tent but across a few nights with different people didn't even notice them.

Australia. However it said bring bedlinen which we did. But when we got there we found there were no pillows, doonas or blankets. We assumed they would be provided. There was also a requirement to pay for any wood used. I just felt that it did not really feel welcoming with requests for the payment for wood and no bed covers or pillows. There was no fridge due to no electricity. We knew this before we went but felt the cost was not matched to the facilities.
The cabin was in a lovely setting in a wooded area on the farm and very peaceful

AustraliaThis is a unique property and people need to know it is really like camping but with a roof. We like it for that's what it offers. The surfaces outside are very uneven, I would not recommend for anyone unsteady on their feet. The bed is very comfy and the fireplace is lovely. It's nice to have an off-grid experience. It was our second stay (last time booked on Hipcamp).

AustraliaThere is a small wheelbarrow of wood o. the veranda, but inside the cottage a sign tells us that to use the wood to light a fire we need to leave $40 cash on the bench. This felt a tad unwelcoming! There are also many other signs around the cottage advising us what not to do. luckily we were there for a friend’s party so we just went to their place for most of the time and came back to sleep in the cottage at night. which was fine.
it’s a good tucked away location just past the owners house, not far from the Reservoir, which is a lovely spot loved by locals just out of Chewton. the cottage fits the title - is very rustic and colonial.
