Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Australiathe bike racks were a little out of the way. One of our bags was lost from the ferry pick up, it was found but only because we were there when the bags were dropped and we told them we were missing one. the view was of a building site.

AustraliaOnly improvement would be a better roof on the top floor room's balconies. As it was raining you couldn't go out onto the balcony as the roof is just slats of wood.
Great location and lovely room. Ideal for a bit more of a fancy stay at Rotto. Would definitely stay again.

MalaysiaLocation is not exclusive for the price paid. The general public are able to access the hotel. Lots of movement of people in the vicinity. Beside it is the very crowded Rottnest hotel pub.. Lack of privacy for the price paid. I had sent the hotel a message requesting for a room on the ground floor as I was 69 years old and had difficulty going up and down stairs. The hotel didn't reply my message! When I checked-in, I was given a room on the 1 st floor. The lift to this 1st floor, was far away from the reception and to reach the lift, one had to walk through the long corridor, passing all the rooms on the ground floor.. The hotel didn't bother to reply my other messages too on request for early check-in.
Cleanliness was good. Beds were comfortable. Service staff were friendly. Reception staff were just businesslike

AustraliaThe prices at Samphire Rottnest are completely unjustified for the experience it offers. While I understand that accommodation on Rottnest Island comes at a premium due to its exclusivity and limited options, $472 AUD for the room we stayed in on a Tuesday night (not the weekend) was simply excessive. The value did not match the cost. Additionally, our experience at Lontara restaurant was highly disappointing. Initially, we were denied a reservation for the evening, with the explanation that the restaurant was fully booked. However, thanks to the intervention of an excellent young Canadian waiter, the manager finally agreed to add an extra table for us. Notably, when we arrived for dinner, the restaurant was neither complete nor bustling, and accommodating a few more guests would not have been an issue. Once seated, we both ordered the braised beef cheeks. Typically, we prefer to order different dishes to share, but the menu offered little that stood out. We received not a proper serving of braised beef cheeks but a dish that included cheaper meat cuts as fillers—something utterly unacceptable at this price point. While the staff did offer to replace the portions, they did not remove the dish from our bill, which only compounded our disappointment. Overall, our experience at Samphire Rottnest and Lontara did not justify the high prices, and I would carefully evaluate other options before deciding to return.
The Samphire is a good hotel: comfortable, with helpful staff and good rooms and beds. It is also just a short stroll from the Ferry jetty. Upon arrival, your Ferry operator offers to drop your luggage directly at the hotel (a paid service), and it will be waiting for you in your room after check-in. The luggage will also be delivered back to the Ferry operator at your departure, making it a seamless process.

AustraliaRoom service food was poor quality & cold. Overpriced. Checkout several hours ago & notice the $400 deposit at check in not yet refunded.
Extremely overpriced for what it is. Average staff. Booking.com advertised the nightly rate of $700! Per night with breakfast then hotel states no at check in. Terrible support from booking.com to even assist in a resolution.

AustraliaAfter contacting them prior to our stay. Discussing my daughter’s 19th bday and establishing we were coming as a family looking to enjoy breakfast on the day, we were told we didn’t have a complementary breakfast. I tried to explain that I had , had a phone call from the staff to clarify if we needed to book for for dinner and breakfast.,It was a special occassion for us.,Yes , they said they could see someone had called us and it was recorded on the notes, but that my booking did not have breakfast included., apparently because I went through booking .com it was unlikely . Extremely annoying , hence we went somewhere else. We arrived 30 mins prior to check in at 3 and only one room out of 3 was readying . They did leave 2 drink passes for my daughter for her bday but in the wrong room. We paid a lot of money for 3 rooms for a special night as a family of 6. It was disappointing.
The pool area .

AustraliaNot enough cleaning staff for rooms. There is a green light red light system for room cleaning that you only find out about if you ring reception when your room is still not made up by 3.30pm. And they have a virtue signalling $5 donation to the quokkas if you opt out of room cleaning. They want to save cleaning costs for a $600 room! Never again.

AustraliaWhen paying for two rooms totaling $1800 for one night. You would expect the rooms to be super clean, soft towels, all channels on the TV working, Please understand, I have stayed many nights in rooms over $800pn, but this was by far the worst. Apart from the lady working on checkout. The rest should not have been working there.
The lady at reception on checkout. The only person that treated guests the way they should for the money being spent.
