I am just under 6" and the beds were a little small for me, but for the price it's honestly worth it. If you're short you'll be super comfy

Love it!!! The staff are super amazing and they put on an open Mike night which was rad. All around good vibes!!

Fun and friendly accommodation in the centre of Nelson

    • Couple
    • Twin Room
    • Stayed 7 nights

It was hard to control the temperature in the bedroom - we think the central heating thermostat is near the fire in the lounge, so the heating doesn't always come on even when the bedrooms are cold. There's a knack to lighting the burners on the gas cooker which isn't necessarily intuitive. Maybe put up some instructions, or just provide a lighter. When it's busy there can be a wait for the bathrooms, especially the upstairs toilet. Parking space is limited (again, we knew about this) especially if people don't park tightly. There is room for 8 cars in total, but sometimes people parked across 2 spaces. However there is street parking which is free from 5 pm to 9 am and $2 per hour at other times, so if you're out all day it's not really a big problem.

Room was as expected, with comfortable beds. Note - beds in the twin rooms are bunk beds (which we knew). Good-sized kitchen where we could prepare breakfast and cook some dinners. Plenty of room to store food. We thought it might be busy but it never was even when the accommodation was full. Great open-mic night which seems to be a bit of a Nelson institution. Staff were very friendly and helpful, with tips on good local restaurants and other nightlife.

More off-street parking would be helpful but realize this property has very limited spaces for vehicles.

The woman in charge of registering (she was from Australia but I've forgotten her name) was very helpful and even ran off a copy of HI hostels between Nelson and Winnipeg which we will be visiting later this year.

This place feels like a cosy cottage on the inside. The rooms were clean and I felt like I had a lot of privacy after putting a sheet up. The guy at the front desk was lovely and overall I really enjoyed my stay! Wish I could've stayed for longer than 1 night.

Honestly, sharing the bathroom. That’s the nature of a dormitory lol but I am too old for that :)

It was in a fab location and in a charming old building with lots of character.

I have some mobility issues, so the stairs from from the parking, up to the rooms was a bit difficult sometimes, especially because the stairs to the rooms were quite narrow. But that's not really the hostels fault. Maybe making a note of that would be a helpful accessibility thing? Not a huge negative, just a small thing to note.

The location was fantastic, very walkable to downtown. Loved it! Also the staff was so lovely, kind and sweet! The complimentary upgrade to a smaller shared room, that ended up being private was also incredible! The bunk beds were actually pretty comfortable. The wider wooden slats for support was good, not like those thin metal bars from other places. Having a sink in the room was also incredibly convenient and useful. My partner and I had a great time,! Thank you so much!

Probably shouldve been offered to sign up to HIA when we told the receptionist we were headed on a roadtrip to the rockies as it wasnt until the next HIA hostel when that happened. We didn't know about it. But our receptionist was lovely anyway.

Cosy and in a convenient in-town location, nice restaurant next door for breakfast. Room was small but comfortable

Everything Having the owners so faraway from Nelson all the staff are professional and courteous and kind

The personal touches the staff and how organized and professional the staff are it’s like staying in a 4 star hotel regarding the way I was treated like I was important and felt safe in my dorm plus the place is a 10 compared to some hostel in the last few weeks
