Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

AustraliaThe hostel is located on an ally of the industrisl units. The building was rather old and ruined and nothing typical of Switzerland(looked like the hostels in third world countries). Rooms had strange arrangemenrs for the power outlets, where one would have to lay under the bed and try to place the power plug on the tight space between the bed frame and the wall. Lockers were in poor condition and not so secure. Toilets doors locks were not working. Kitchen was old and not tidy/clean. Basel as a city as an dump full of middle easterners.
Staff were kind and provided free of cost tickets for local and to airport transport, as well as free fruit for the breakfast.

AustriaThe hostel is located in a beautiful converted warehouse complex, surrounded by an organic restaurant, an athmospheric bar, theatre etc. Lots of plants everywhere, too! Also, this hostel has some very large beds.

SwitzerlandDuring my stay it was extremely loud during the nights(up to 3 am) - some kids-teenagers stayed on the floor, they were lauthing, shouting, running like no one else was around, reception was closed so there is no one to tell about it
Bed is very comfortable, rooms are big, enough bathrooms on the floor

PolandVery good utilities, kitchen has everything you could imagine for cooking. The vibe of the room and the furniture are awesome. It’s close to Basel SBB. A lot of shops nearby (Migros, Aldi, Lidl) makes it a perfect place to stay for a city break. The receptionist is a very kind person. 11/10 would come again!

I stayed in Basel for four nights, two at Hyve and two at Basel Backback. So, I can compare two hostels (in both cases I stayed in a shared mixed room) Hyve's pros: it is a nicer place to stay (the design, everything is clean). As I stayed at the hostel not just for a night, it was important for me to drink coffee there and relax after exhausting trip. I could do that in Hyve. It has a pleasant zone to have meal, work at the laptop, and read. Separate WC for women and men. USB charger near every bad. Booked bed for you. Towels are included in the price. Hairdryer even with a cone for curly hair. Basel ticket is sent you in advance by email, so you can reach the hostel for free. Hyve's cons: more expensive but the tax is already included. Common bathroom. Rather small rooms. Backpack's pros: it is cheaper. Larger rooms. Separated bathrooms. Hairdryer. Backpack's cons: you choose any bad in the room. Old building and design where you don't want to stay. Common toilets. Tax is not included in the final price (like tourist tax, 4 CHF per night). Not sockets near beds. No towels. Basel ticket is given at the reception only (only paper version).

GermanyNo hot showers! Unacceptable. No soap in the showers, even the basic check stuff would be fine but nothing. Hand soap also out in many bathrooms! No towels nor info on how / if to rent one. Lots of basic details missing from this place. Never would’ve stayed here if I knew I wouldn’t get a warm shower it was too cool to even go under the water. I tried both bathrooms.
Fairly clean
