Upon arrival at the hotel I discovered that I accidently booked a nonrefundable room for September 25 (2 months after our stay), instead of the night of our arrival. I made a new booking while standing in the lobby for less money. The desk clerk promised to talk to the manager to see if we can get a credit to apply to a room on another night TBD in the future. Unfortunately i haven't heard back on this request.

We made a last minute booking to ensure we would not miss our connection to a DB train to Berlin the next morning The hotel is just around the corner from the main Basel SBB station. It is small but our room was a good size with a comfotable bed and nice view to the park across the street. The bathroom had a large combination tub/shower and large towels. The TV was large with a good selection of channels. We enjoyed a nice walk from the hotel to through the old town to the Rhine and enjoyed an obscenely expensive drink on the terrace of a grand hotel overlooking the Rhine, grateful to have been able to enjoy that experience without having to pay over CHF 500 for a room.

Our room was on the 8th floor which is where breakfast is provided. In the morning you could hear the music from the breakfast room and hear hotel guests coming through, so it was quite noisy.

The room was very clean and the bed was comfy, window could be opened, I also really appreciated the coffee machine in the room.

The location was excellent - right near the train station and the staff were very friendly. The trams were free and there was a stop right out the front.

The hotel caters to people needing a place to the night on their way to Italy. For that purpose, the hotel is fine. I wouldn't recommend it for a longer stay. The very small parking garage is shared with another hotel. The entrance is just 100 meters around the corner, but to get there from the hotel entrance requires a serious detour through the city.

No a/c or fan so very hot when we were there. We were with 3 friends. Two beds were together but that was ok. And the last extra 'bed' was a very uncomfortable, thin mattress. After the first night we asked for an extra mattress and that slept great.

Location was perfect. Staff very friendly. And lots of information available. Clean. Enough room for 3 people. Fridge with water and a seating area. Windows could open so that was nice because it was very hot. But it was noisy as we slept on the street side. All in all it was fine for a city trip!

I arrived at 11pm and I could not get into the lobby to check in with the code I had been provided, the glass door wouldn't open. There was a common corridor connecting to an adjacent hotel, and I went there to ask if they knew how to get inside. They said I was supposed to check in with them, and they sorted it out for me. However, there was NO indication whatsoever anywhere in the Metropol that I had to check in on the OTHER hotel to which they're connected. One more beer on me and I would've ended sleeping on the floor.

Clean, convenient location. Breakfast room at the top is a nice addition to see the city from a high spot.
