Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

The location is incredible it's a bit of a climb but worth every step. I had a beautiful very comfortable room looking right at the Eiger and down over the beautiful village. Night and day the views are amazing. Staff are so friendly and helpful they even added a kettle to the coffee machine when they knew i liked tea. Breakfast was great again stunning views. I stayed 3 nights and would definitely return. Outstanding

Hong KongWe had the most heartwarming experience at Hotel Sonnenberg. We were grateful for everything arranged and prepared by the hotel owner and his wife, including the fondue dinner in a private tent, the hotel room and the breakfast etc. Perhaps Hotel Sonnenberg is one of the major reasons why we fell in love with Grindelwald. The balcony view absolutely left us breathless every morning.

NetherlandsThe carpet in the room has seen better days and the shower went hot/cold by itself, but who cares when you can just look past it out the window :)
Oh my goodness those views - highlight of a month long road trip. As others have said, that 2 minute walk uphill from the village is SO worth it. Just stunning. Also the most warm and friendly staff from start to finish

NetherlandsDuring the day I could hear people talking in the room next to mine very clearly. Extremely steep walk to the hotel, this is the sacrifice for the views. Very difficult to walk even without any luggage, every time it was a workout. Part of the road to the hotel was totally dark in the evening, that part is far away from the hotel so very likely not managed by the hotel, however you have to walk through it in complete darkness to get to the hotel.
Very close to train station and grocery. Quiet area. Great WiFi. Excellent views. Nice breakfast.

AustraliaWe loved our stay in Hotel Sonnenberg. Great location, beautiful mountain views and a well maintained, clean room. The staff was friendly, welcoming and very helpful. When we had to leave early for a day trip, the manager arranged take away breakfast packs with coffee for us, which was fabulous. We loved everything and would definitely recommend Hotel Sonnenberg to anyone who wants to stay in Grindelwald.

United StatesThe fan in the bathroom stays on a bit long (it's to help with the moisture) so if you got up to use bathroom at night, the fan noise was a little loud but not a deal breaker.
The view from our room was insanely beautiful! I highly recommend getting a room with a balcony view. You will not believe the views. The staff were SO friendly and helpful. On our last morning, they packed us a breakfast so we could take it on the train with us. The breakfast everyday was great, and they cook eggs to order :)

United StatesThe Sonnenberg is the best value in Grindelwald. The views of the valley and peaks are unforgettable. We truly felt welcomed to the Sonnerberg unlike other Grindelwald hotels I've stayed in. We had cycled over 2 major passes from Andermatt so the 200 meter walk was no big deal. The couple managing the hotel booked dinners in the village for our group which completed our two night stay.
