Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

Czech RepublicI never met such rude and disrespectful staff. The bald man with white beard at the reception, extremely rude attitude , both verbally and non verbally. Inevitable contact with him to give me the code for luggage room and to ask about the travel pass, which i didn’t receive by email. Also one of the noisiest place, although it was already midnight when i checked in, till 3am was not quiet.

JapanI expected each dormitory room would have own bathroom, but there were only two toilets and two shower spaces in one floor and we had to share. Even though I booked female only room, shower room is shared both by men and women. Separated bathroom was my most important priority, so I was disappointed and I wasn’t able to take a shower during my stay. Also, the key of one toilet was broken (the one for both men and women). Furthermore, my bed was upper one but it didn’t have flame. There were three beds, and only mine didn’t have it. As I was afraid of falling off, I asked the reception if it was possible to change room. When I told about it, he laughed at me. I understand that it was impossible to change because all beds were already full, but at least he shouldn’t have laughed at me. To sleep without concern, I put the blanket on side so that I don’t fall down, and I caught a bit cold because I didn’t use the blanket. On the next day, I piled up my clothes and towels.
Location. Less than ten minutes walking to the buss or train station. Since I had to take a buss at midnight, it was really good. The staff showed me some recommendations for sightseeing.

SwitzerlandSelf check in was a bother. Very noisey - we could hear kids yelling and screaming in the stairwell till late at night- very echoey and loud. Shared bathroom. Very budget linen and towels- thin duvet and cold room. A very annoying light that couldn’t be turned off n the bedroom caused a bad nights sleep. overall we did not enjoy our stay and wouldn’t come back.
easy location to reach from Train station and to catch the bus to the Basel airport. Nice big bed. Spacious room.

IndonesiaBooked rooms on the 29th December until 2nd January. We were a travelers of a group of 6. We booked a room with 6 bunk beds. Upon arrival, we did a self-check in, and issued 6 cards for ourselves. Fast forward to 31st of December, our room was burgled. Our devices were put inside a luggage, which has been LOCKED. They broke the zipper and took ALL of our electronic devices. We were speechless. We all had 6 of our keys, and talked to the reception about the CCTV cameras. We lost 2 Macbooks (barely a year old), iPad Pro 2020, 2 Samsung Galaxies, hundreds of euros, and a Kanken bag. Suspiciously, the cameras don't work on the important areas (e.g. reception, common room, restaurant area) in the following date. The reception (Nick) said that it has not been working. Hence, the hotel failed to deliver the service the need. Not to mention the rising suspicion of reasoning that the cameras are broken. We also called the police, and the police was not able to help as much since Switzerland's laws prohibits the implementation of CCTV cameras on road. Throughout the remaining of our stays, we contacted the Managing Director, Joe. He puts the blame on us customers. He claimed that they offer us safety box at the reception, which has never been explained to us. This is a very unprofessional. We, as a customers have paid to receive those services and facilities. I asked them to provide us the log of every access cards, and they reasoned that it is not possible since they "outsource" the platform in managing the rooms information, which includes the history. He claimed that he will reach back to me by the 4th of January. Now, it is 12th of January, he did not end me the documents I requested. The room that I was in also do not have double lock. So it is purely by keys, and you are not able to lock from the inside. No compensation from the hotel or whatsoever, even they once promised us.
Nothing.

SwitzerlandI booked a single room for a stay after a new year`s eve party. I knew I will arrive late and have to check in unmanly hours therefore I was looking for a place with self check in. Well the self check in was not working, so I had to ring someone at 4 am - which I understand is inconvenient - but it was not my fault. The person wasn`t very friendly, which normally I would understand ( I am really not friendly either at 4 am), but I guess this is just not acceptable in this industry. On booking.com it is stated that the room is soundproof. Well it wasn`t. The hostel is in a quite area, but the isolation towards the corridor is none existent. I recommend you prepare with earplugs.
The room was clean and generously sized. The location is really great. Close to the main station, direct connection to the airport. etc.

SwitzerlandGot to the hotel at 11pm. According to the hostel's website, the reception should have been open. When I got there, everything was closed. I had no phone service, so no way of calling anyone. As a solo female traveller, this was a very stressful situation. I luckily had friend in Basel I was able to go to in emergency. When I phoned the hotel the next day to inform them of my problem, I was told self check in could have been possible. I do believe them, but the instructions were very unclear/I was not able to retrieve them since I didn't have phone service. Please make sure instructions are clearer, and don't announce reception will be open when there actually isn't anyone.

It was very clean and tidy, the staff were so friendly and accomodating. The boss Georges, was a great help and loves to have a laugh. The property is in a great location, very central. The facilities were fantastic; the kitchen, dinning area, outdoor patio were all very spacious and clean, had plenty of board games too and a pool table room downstairs. We had a king bed that was the most comfortable hostel bed I’ve had in a very big/spacious double room.

I stayed in Basel for four nights, two at Hyve and two at Basel Backback. So, I can compare two hostels (in both cases I stayed in a shared mixed room) Hyve's pros: it is a nicer place to stay (the design, everything is clean). As I stayed at the hostel not just for a night, it was important for me to drink coffee there and relax after exhausting trip. I could do that in Hyve. It has a pleasant zone to have meal, work at the laptop, and read. Separate WC for women and men. USB charger near every bad. Booked bed for you. Towels are included in the price. Hairdryer even with a cone for curly hair. Basel ticket is sent you in advance by email, so you can reach the hostel for free. Hyve's cons: more expensive but the tax is already included. Common bathroom. Rather small rooms. Backpack's pros: it is cheaper. Larger rooms. Separated bathrooms. Hairdryer. Backpack's cons: you choose any bad in the room. Old building and design where you don't want to stay. Common toilets. Tax is not included in the final price (like tourist tax, 4 CHF per night). Not sockets near beds. No towels. Basel ticket is given at the reception only (only paper version).
