Real Bookers. Real stays. Real opinions.
Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

BelgiumTime goes too fast here.
This is an amazing place. You feel at home immediately and Néstor is the prefect host. We enjoyed the meals and the view from our room. This place comes highly recommended.

United StatesIt would be great to have Wi-Fi in the Cabins, instead of having to go to the Main Lodge communal area for service. But, you get used to it. In a way, it was great to be disconnected from technology for a few days.
I booked this Cabin because of the location, close to the trails to Cerro Castillo, and had no expectations. I had rented a car already to travel from Balmaceda Airport to Cerro Castillo, and to be able to go back and forth to the town. Once I arrived to the Cabin, I quickly realized that, basically, I had no need to leave the area. The staff at Alto Castillo provided all the services needed. My car was not a 4x4, so I had to park at the bottom of the property and once I arrived, I was promptly picked up and taken to the main property. They offer Lunch and Dinner, for an extra fee. I chose to have a lunch bag prepared for me each day of hiking and ate dinners at the Main Lodge. Also, there was no need to drive my car to the trail heads, because they also provided transportation to the 2 main trails. You definitely need a 4x4 to be able to drive to the trails! I was very happy for that service. The property is located in a spectacular location, with the most amazing views of Cerro Castillo and the Rio Ibanez Basin. The Cabins are very modern with all the amenities needed to be comfortable. The breakfast was great! The bread was made in-house and the milk and cheeses were from adjacent farms. The lunch boxes were perfect for the day hikes. Dinners were made at he Lodge, cooked by their amazing Chef, Patrick. But what makes this place so outstanding is the Staff that runs it. They make you feel like you are part of their family. Nestor, the administrator, does an amazing job of running the place and making sure that all the guest's needs are met. It was easy to contact him with any questions at any time of the day. Other amazing staff, included Geraldine and Danela. Their service and attentiveness was greatly appreciated! I highly recommend Alto Castillo to anyone desiring to experience all the amazing natural wonders of the area. I would suggest spending at least 3 full days in the area. I will definitely go back!

United StatesNothing. We could have stayed here forever.
This was by far one of the most amazing places we've ever stayed! The staff was warm and welcoming, the beds were the MOST comfortable in all of South America, and the view and location can't be beat! The food for breakfast and dinner was among the best we had in Chile. Don't hesitate to stay here!! One thing to note- if you plan on driving up the hill on your own, you *will* need a 4x4 vehicle. No worries if you don't have one... the staff happily will come pick you up at the base (still within the gated property) and bring you to your room.

FranceHidden at the end of a path in a sublime place overlooking Cerro Castillo and the valley, this tastefully built and decorated lodge is run by lovely and attentive hosts. Between the incredible view from the suite and the quality of the meals (the best I've tasted in Chile so far) everything is done to ensure you have an extraordinary time. WOW!

United KingdomWe only wanted one small sandwich as a snack for a lunch and were charged 24,000! A bit of bread, cheese and avocado that we could have eaten at breakfast. Not Nestor’s fault, the rules, but that was crazy absurd. At the same time, the wine was surprisingly good value, so it balances out.
Stunning location, even in mixed weather. Set in 50 acres, an incredibly steep 150m ascent above the access road. Unless you have a serious 4x4 and are a very confident driver, you have to park at the bottom and get taken up. Which worked fine. Nestor very obliging and helpful. Loved the park and the 14mile Laguna Duff trail. Very good food - excellent soups in particular. Good WiFi. Very classy place as per pictures. Memorable.

GermanyIt was an excellent stay. I really appreciated the two nights I stayed in this stunning area. As the location is unique you need a 4x4 car to achieve the location, otherwise you will be picked. The room was clean, well equipped and cosy and especially the view out of bed in the morning is unique. I had as well dinner and the chef served a very delicious menu. I am very happy that I found and choose this accommodation.

United KingdomAny minor inconvenience is overshadowed by how amazing it was staying here. Breakfast probably on the lighter side for us, especially when hiking, and it is cold until you get a fire going, but that’s part of the charm!
Utterly breathtaking setting - we stayed in the suite which had views over mountains and trees and was completely on its own. Beautifully designed and furnished space. It’s an experience staying here in itself, worth going well out of your way for if needed! But it’s also very close to the trailheads in the nearby national park with spectacular, quiet hiking trails. The staff were all incredibly friendly and went out of their way to make our stay special - which included bringing over some cake for my partner’s birthday on the last morning of our stay, minutes after they heard about it. Nestor treats you like royalty - very attentive coffee preparation for example! And Lucas was really happy to offer lifts up and down the hill, and share information about the local area and Chile in general. Simply one of the best places we’ve ever stayed.

PolandThe mobile service is weak, and the internet (Starlink) is only in the common area; if it's shut down, there's no way to contact the owners to coordinate the hour of breakfast, unless you go to a nearby hill and have Entel. The nights might get cold and you need to light the fireplace by yourself (which is not a bad thing at all if you know how to do it). Without a car, the place is one-hour walk away from the village, and in order to get to the place you're recommended to have 4x4 car, or walk, or ask the owners to pick you up (slightly troublesome, but that's the price for wonderful views).
The view was amazing! The vicinity of nature is unmatched, many windows, even in the bathroom with mountain view. Comfortable bed, spacious cabin house, remote area (no neighbours in 50m radius), beautiful decor with attention to detail. Delicious breakfast and dinner (upon request).

NetherlandsNothing comes to mind on what can be improved
The lodge is situated at a unique location. The hosts (Felipe & Mariana) are great! We loved the charming cabana where we stayed, it was nicely decorated and had stunning views. The food was delicious (traditional home-style Chilean food). Last point; the lodge makes a great effort to be as sustainable as possible…which is great!

United StatesVery difficult to reach the facility, although the staff was willing to help us up the very steep and bumpy road in their 4x4 truck whenever we needed to get somewhere. Updated 2 March: Because of a flight cancellation, we had to miss one day of our scheduled time at Villa Castillo. We were assured by on-site management that working through Booking.com, we would be refunded for the missed date. After several attempts through Booking.com and directly with the property, our attempts have been ignored with no refund made. This is an unfortunate way to end what otherwise was a very nice stay at this property, resulting in our lower score.
Location, scenery, facility and staff were exceptional. The meals were excellent using local ingredients and prepared when we wanted. Staff made sure that we had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. If you're looking for quiet, nature and beauty with a bit of romance, this is the place to be.
