Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

The lockers in the room are stupidly loud. The internet was a bit patchy.
Great stay. Walking distance from the Muslim Quarter, metro and other attractions. Super friendly and helpful staff that let us check in early. Super clean — there was always someone cleaning or picking things up. Nice beers (green tea wheat beer is my fave!) and snacks. Cheap breakfast option if you need to have a snack as soon as you wake up. Towels, water, slippers, shampoo and other stuff provided at the hostel. If I come to visit the city again I will stay at Desti.

Bathrooms were spotless in the morning but got dirty later at night. Maybe they need to be cleaned more than once a day when the hostel is really busy.
Great facilities, towels and slippers provided, bathrooms had soap and paper towel, common room was equipped with games and plenty of seats. Staff were very friendly and helpful, they wrote a note for me in Chinese to find vegetarian food. Beds were cosy and comfortable, with bedside light, electrical plugs and shelf, with a thick curtain for privacy and light protection. Social vibes are also very good, the common area is very well suited to meet people. I will definitely stay here again if I return to Xi'an (even if it were more expensive it would be worth it).

I had an amazing stay at the hostel! The location is amazing, it is right in the center. The room was big and the bed confortable. The common rooms were really nice too, lots of social activities organised. Bathrooms were always really clean. Nothing to add, it was an excellent place to stay!

Maybe the temperature in the room it’s A bit high.
Really cool common area a lot of space and many places to chill out with a nice drink. The hostel have every day different programs if u wanna join with them and the staff speak English. Thanks to Cindy nice girl she help me a lot during my stay !

You need an app to use the washer and dryer. Though if you cant download it they will help you in the reception. Lockers weren't big enough for entire backpack, still plenty of space for valuables.
Excellent common area. Great for hanging out and meeting new friends. Decent price for drinks at the bar as well. Cleaning staff cleaned the rooms and gave us water every day

Nothing to complain. Everything good organized, clean, enough toilets and showers, lockers are available, towels, slippers and water are always provided. Staff speaks English, breakfast was alright with good coffee and location couldn't be better.

I loved Desti hostel! Perfect location by the bell tower, clean rooms, professional staff who spoke English, and tasty and cheap craft beers on tap! Liked it so much we are booking another Desti in a different Chinese city

The over all environment is warm and comfortable. The common areas are tastefully furnished, with soft sofas, bookshelves full of books, it's easy to meet people from all over the world, and the atmosphere is great.

It would be nice if the playlist could be changed more often
This trip to stay in here，is really the best decision I have ever made! Geographical location is fantastic, in the city center, surrounding attractions, food street, subway stations are close at hand, travel super convenient. It is not far from Exit d of the Zhonglou subway Station, whether it is to the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, the Tang Never Sleeps City, or to eat authentic Xi 'an food, you can quickly arrive.
