Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesThe only place to stay in Shangri-la! Location was perfect and there is a nostalgia in staying in a traditionally built lodge. The owner is amazing, he spoked fluent english and help me with every question I had.

FranceMore tibetan breakfast on your menu!! Haha i say this only to find something to say. As the owner would say, if you are happy then everything would be okay. If you are not, then you'll see all negative. So just go there with all your joy and happiness to enjoy this place as we did
Our stay at Yi's hostel was lovely. We enjoyed a lot the tibetan architecture of the hostel and the room's decoration too. We really appreciated to have good recommendations for real tibetan food into town as well and also the host company to show us around or to talk with. The hostel is very close to guishan park and the main road where you can get a bus or a cab/didi. Also the yi's hostel is run by a tibetan family so if having a tibetan experience is what's your looking for in shangrila, just pick this hostel!!

The property is a lovely, old, authentic, family-run place in the centre of the Shangri-La Old Town. The family are incredibly welcoming (I was lucky enough to sit down for a BBQ with them) and very helpful (organising taxis, showing you around the town and dropping you off at places if you ask nicely).

United StatesThe room was warm with thick blanket and heater and a heating pad, and everything I needed and comfortable bed. The location was more on a quiet street with less crowds and the family who owns it was warm and very welcoming, open to lovely conversations and sharing breakfast and butter tea so good for the snowy day in highland city .

United StatesIt felt very authentic and a great location, there’s also a restaurant affiliated with the hotel so you can easily order breakfast lunch or dinner, pricing is equal to what you would find in the other nearby restaurants. I also really love getting to know the staff, a really lovely family who made me feel at home!

FinlandWe truly love this guesthouse! The owner, who speaks excellent English, was incredibly helpful in arranging a driver and planning our trip to Tiger Leaping Gorge and nearby attractions. The guesthouse had a charming and cozy atmosphere. On a freezing night, we slept comfortably thanks to the heated mattress and super-warm blankets.

PolandWe rented electric motors, unfortunately the battery lasts just 50% of what it is supposed to do due to the cold. It's not necessarily negative feedback,as staff helped us, pick us up, etc. and motors didn't belong to them after all, but suggest to double check what are you renting.
We liked the room - simple, but nice: 1 bed for us, a bunk bed for children, all with an electric blanket. All what needed in place,o cl. washing machine. Very good location close to city center. Staff helped us to organize some trips around the city.

GermanyI had a great time at the Yi's hostel! I loved its traditional Tibetan vibe. Very cosy. The location in the Old Town was just perfect. Tenzin was very friendly and helpful with all sorts of information. And he cooks the best coffee in Shangri-La. Not to forget three adorable cats in the hotel! I even returned to this place two times—the first time, after hiking in Yubeng village. Tenzin also let me leave my excess baggage until my return. And the second time, when my plane was cancelled. The only thing to keep in mind is that it's just cold in winter. In January, the temperature in the night went down to -8 or so. Houses in China have no central heating, but the hotel provides electrical heaters and blankets. These blankets were my saviours! But my face was still kinda cold in the night. And don't expect to see mountains from the hotel: unfortunately, the view is blocked by other hotels. Still loved these rooms! Now I have to return in summer to try a yak burger :)

ChinaAt night it was quite cold. A better heater would help, but the extra thick comforter on the bed helped.
The hotel was amazing. It was very old style. We were treated quite royally. The location in the old town was perfect. We were also given great directions and suggestions for our time in Shangri-la.

Hong KongThe heating was not as strong as we were used to (by Canadian standards ) considering that during the night it can be minus 10 Celsius.
The location was in a quiet area of the ancient town but yet a few steps away from all the actions. The owner and staff were welcoming and helpful. They can speak English. The fireplace in the first floor is cosy in the evening.

United KingdomThe rooms are quite cold. In the classic Chinese style, the shower goes directly over the toilet so the bathroom gets quite wet. The breakfast is not always available and is a bit expensive, but not crazy for Shangri la.
The staff are really kind and speak very good English. The decor of the rooms is a nice rustic style. The coffee is very good. The location is great.

SingaporeThe so-called mountain view is not exactly mountain view. You are actually looking at a backyard/someone else’s house, then you get a glimpse of the temple on the mountain.
Tibetan style inn situated very close to the old town center. The vibe is cozy and friendly. The owner and his staff speak very good English so this would be a great option for international tourists.

The hostel is nice, well-decorated. The location is the best. It is located near Tafo temple and in the old town. You can easily walk to the temple around 500 meter and walk around the old town. The room is clean and large for three ppl. There is no heater, every the beds have electric blanket though. The staff can communicate in english really well. The hostel has a restaurant “Sawastika”. If you are bored with Chinese food, this restaurant might be the choice. The taste is good. All in all, everything is good.

IsraelThere was a bit of a damp smell in the bathroom due to insufficient ventilation.
The Shangri-La had a great central location, making it easy to walk to various places. The stay was enjoyable, although the room was semi-basement style with a window at ground level. The hosts were incredibly attentive and always ready to help. One complimentary ride was included, which we used for a different location, and they also arranged a convenient early morning airport transfer for an extra fee. Overall, it was a pleasant experience with helpful service.

AustriaFor not getting your expectations too high on the "view": Unfortunately there is lots of new construction going on around the hostel (as is everywhere in the town) and the rooms with a view are slowly loosing the promised view on the pictures. Anyhow, it's not far up to the Pagodas ;)
Yi is such a lovely person and was very welcoming. The rooms have a nice style, they are simple and you feel very comfy there. It's a great location, right in the middle of the old town, but still somehow hidden.

VietnamIt would be more helpful if there is an instruction for me to find the hostel, because it is in the ancient town, so we arrived at North gate, and need to walk a bit far, while we can arrive at the East gate which much closer.
The location is very close to catch taxi, the receptionist is very helpful and speaks English very well. I like the decoration also, feel local. My kids love to play with the cats.
