Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesThe noise can be bad during the day. It lessens between 10 PM and 5 AM. The security on the doors seems less than sure, but the hotel has strong security and an alarm on the main door.
It is a kind of Boutique hotel, with a lot of style within. The showers were hot and the staff is very friendly helping you transact your business and see the sights. It is very near the Tica Bus terminal.

NicaraguaI thought since it is called “Casa Aldea bed and breakfast” breakfast would be included as it was the last time I booked with booking.com. I was never given the option to add breakfast during the booking and it wasn’t included. Apart from that, everything good.
Nice interesting Victorian house. Lots of character.

United StatesCasa Aldea is an older facility with basic furnishings. It's downtown location is very convenient, but makes traffic noise unavoidable.
The staff at Casa Aldea are amazing! They went out of their way to accommodate us when the airline lost our luggage, and were extremely flexible with our late check in and very departure times. The adjoining Italian restaurant serves excellent food and was extremely convenient for us during our short stay.

United StatesI left for the airport at 5:30AM so didn't have breakfast there. The front desk is manned starting at 6AM so I was given the code to unlock the front door, which worked out fine. I also stayed there my 1st night in San Jose & had breakfast before leaving for Jaco beach the next day. Breakfast was ok.

United StatesThe facilities were quite old and could have been maintained and cleaned a little better. But still, given the price and location, we were not disappointed.

JapanThe room is a little old, but it is something you're expecting from a vintage hotel. There is hot water in the bathroom, but it takes a little time (~30 seconds) for the hot water to come, so please be a little patient. My room is near the road, so there is traffic noise at night too, but I don't mind much about it.
Breakfast was good, and the room was nice. The building is something you will remember. The host was very friendly understanding, and helpful with my requests (booking a taxi, tour, etc.), and I was invited to a free pizza from the restaurant ("The best pizza in Costa Rica").

Costa RicaThe lock on the door of my room didn't seem very secure and was very difficult to open. Also the walls between the rooms were not sound proof at all so noise really carried but otherwise it was a nice stay!

United StatesIt's an older building, so there is a lot of creaking whenever someone moves. It really wasn't too bad, since everyone at the hotel was quiet-- I was mostly self-conscious in case I was creaking too much! This isn't necessarily negative, but something for guests to be aware of is that you have to ring the bell to go in and out of the hotel. It's a good safety precaution, but it is just something you have to plan around.
The restaurant attached to the hotel is really nice, and the staff are friendly and helpful. I had a nice dinner and breakfast there. I chose the hotel for the proximity to the Parque Metropolitano La Sabana and Museum of Costa Rican Art, where I planned to go for a jaunt before my flight, and that worked out well. The hotel is also in good proximity to one of the bus terminals that can get you to the airport, so I had a really easy time for my last day of my trip. I didn't get to take advantage of this service, but it looked like there were a lot of nice options for day trips supported through the hotel.
