Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments

To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

The restaurant Myako is not at the top of the expectation, the chicken in the ramen soup is to hard to chew and we found bits of bones in it. The Tuna dish was dry when it should be red inside and tender.
Luxuriant garden in the property which is very pleasant in this city. Free Parking and Airport Shuttle for customers.

We got a bit confused finding the shuttle bus at the airport, we just missed one so ended up getting a taxi and were hugely ripped off - our own fault! but a bit more direction for shuttle pick up would be great!
We stayed at Barcelo as the first hotel for our Honeymoon after our flight to San Jose for 2 nights. The staff were so friendly, they left us a lovely Honeymoon surprise and loved the free snack room with food and drinks :) a huge breakfast selection which was lovely. We loved the pool area and it was just the perfect place to relax after our flight and settle into Costa Rica!

Only tried the resto in the bar and was not impressed, but will try another one when I return.
Nice hotel, and good value. Pool area is very nice. Room had a nice view of the city. Music in bar area very good.

The premium lounge wasn’t staffed at all times so difficult to get drinks and wouldn’t pay extra for this unless wine and beer available all day as not worth it for soft drinks only

I loved the showers but perhap update with higher toilets in the bathroom.
The hotel provided breakfast and dinner buffet where yoy could find something to eat. Great swimming pool area

Provide Buggy’s for travel between restaurants and residence buildings. Limited options for dinner!

Our room cards didn’t work to get into the visitor room on floor six, and one didn’t even get us into our room.
The room was very clean and the bed was super comfortable. The shuttle service to and from the airport was perfect. The staff were all very kind and helpful.

Friendly staff & a safe location. We booked the suite and it has plenty of space and these rooms are on the upper floor. The lounge has a professional coffee machine to make yourself an espresso or Late. That is nice touch if you are a coffee drinker. Lounge is also great for a quick bite and/or snack.

We waited at the airport to get picked up for 2 1/2 hours and ended up taking a taxi. It was a little hectic, but we made it and the taxi driver was helpful even though we were overcharged by $15.
The beds were very comfortable and the food was excellent. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Honestly all was good.
We booked a premium suite with a balcony and lounge benefits. The balcony has seating for 2 and looks out over the gardens or pool. 5th and 6th floor.Bedding is nice - premium linens, bathrobes and the suite is spacious. The lounge has a good coffee machine! So yes you can fix yourself an espresso! If you like there are plenty of snacks or drinks in case you want to grab something in between meals. If Safety is a concern? Book this hotel and you will be surrounded with friendly staff & security personal. Especially for solo travellers I would recommend this hotel. When in San Jose again I book re-book. Thanks Barcelo team.

Ants in room as well as mold in shower area. Can it go anywhere via foot. No vegan options in restaurants.
Pool side and gardens were lovely. Hammocks comfy. Lovely salon area Friendly staff.

The shuttle left us at the airport when customs took longer than I knew it would. Would not come back. 3 women 1:30 in the morning having to find a way to hotel. Not familiar with the country.

Bathroom door doesn’t have a lock. The hotel location is by freeway, so you can’t walk anywhere basically, but the hotel has pretty much everything you need so it’s not a big deal.
Very glad the hotel has several restaurants so you can just enjoy the tropical weather without going anywhere. The bed is comfortable and cozy. Swimming pool is awesome, big and nice.

Property is located next to a very busy and loud highway.
It is nice that this hotel is self-sufficient. It has restaurants and shops, pool and a beautiful garden area to walk through. It is well run and the staff is very friendly and helpful.
