Loved the central location to San Jose, the beautiful gardens surrounding the hotel and amazing views of the city from the pool area. The hammocks were delightful way to spend a lazy afternoon. The rooms were beautifully appointed, food was tasty and I truly appreciated the free shuttle to and from the airport. I enjoyed staying there and highly recommend a stay however, be aware there are always people in the entrance due to tour company travelers.

The staff was super helpful in arranging an early morning airport shuttle for me. Plus directed me to the complimentary service on the 6th floor for an evening cup of tea and snack, when I came in late and tired. These things made me feel well cared for.

We did not have bath towels provided but I'm sure it was just an oversight and not a big deal as the bathrobes were there! We were disappointed that the main restaurant was available for groups only at dinner.

Check-in was great with friendly and helpful staff! We loved the view from the sixth floor, the amenities were exceptional, and the bed was very comfortable! The gardens are a nice bonus!

A good four star hotel with everything you expect. We stayed here before and the standard rooms are spacious and well appointed. This time, we were bumped to a suite which was very comfortable. The lounge area is big and comfortable. The bar is good with meals at reasonable prices. The garden and pool area is very pretty. It's a little way out of the centre of San Jose, but very convenient for the airport, with a free bookable shuttle.

Has Tennis courts and a pro Gistavo who is very good.Michelle and all the Reception staff are personable and knowledgeable. The pool etc and the grounds are well taken care of.

Lovely staff at check in gave us an upgrade and the rooms were beautiful with lovely views of the city and mountains. Our stay was a pleasure and we’re looking forward to visiting again.

The pool the prime room

AMy room was amazing plus they gave me a birthday cake how sweet . The view was beautiful and the prime level is the way to go 10 stars

The check in process was incredibly disorganized and inefficient. First off, we paid for a "premium" level room which was to include an exclusive check in process/area. This did not happen. There were 2 staff handling check in and it was an arduous process that seemed to take around 20+ minutes per guest. We arrived at 1pm and had asked for an early check in when booking (2pm is standard)...room was not ready. We were eager to go to the room but were also hungry. We asked if we could at least go to the Premium level lounge/snack bar while we waited (another "perk" of the "premium" level) but we were told not until the room was ready. We resorted to going to the pool bar where we paid for overpriced fries and received extremely slow and mediocre service. After finally being able to pay our bill at the bar (they would not add it to our room) we went back to reception to get our key and had to wait in line AGAIN behind people checking in just to get the key and access our room. By this time it was 2:30, we got to our room, went over to access the lounge and our key had not been programmed for lounge access...just another facet of the check in debacle that required ANOTHER trip down to the check in desk. Once that was corrected, we went to hang out at the pool, which is really lovely. Unfortunately, the whole pool area is pretty much shaded with only a few of the lounge chairs receiving any sun at all. It was breezy and without the sun it was just not very comfortable for lounging by the pool, so we left. We decided to venture out for souvenir shopping and dinner offsite, which was great. We got back to Barcelo around 7:30 pm with the hopes of a dip in the hot tub or sauna...only to be told that they both close at 4pm!!! Our whole point of booking at Barcelo (with the premium level room) was to end our vacation with a bit of indulgence and relaxation. We did not get that experience and we were totally disappointed.

Room was sparkling clean, attractive and well appointed. Bed way extremely comfortable and room had a stunning view! Many extras in the room such as robes, clothes steamer, mini bar, safe etc. We were quite pleased with the accommodations. The service provided by the bellmen, housekeeping and especially the shuttle drivers, Rigo and Jonathan was exceptional!

Humid moist feeling in air condition bedroom. Hand washed clothing wouldn’t dry. Beds were on wheels and moved. Lots of big bus tour groups passing through. Nothing close by for easy walk.

Food was well prepared. Staff were nice. Hair cut salon excellent value. The gardens were beautiful. Lady playing piano in the lobby in the evening. Room quiet at night.
