Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesThey moved our reservation to a room that was not really connected to the main lodging area. The room itself appeared to previously be a bar that they turned into a back up room. It really had no character. I don't need anything fancy but it was just sterile. There were no chairs/couches/tables inside the unit so you either had to be in bed or standing. The unit was right on the busiest corner of the town and was extremely loud. The locals all use motorcycles with loud exhausts. They start running at about 5am. I assume if you stayed up in one of the rooms we were supposed to have it would have been ok. As the other reviews state, there are a lot of stairs and at night they have no lighting so it is a bit of a hazardous situation.
The location is central was good and had a good view. Airconditioning was good. It did have all a full kitchen set up but as soon as we took any food out the sugar ants came out (to be expected).

United StatesThere are 140 uneven steep steps to the room from the street with bad railings. We felt trapped because it was so arduous to go up and down. Restaurant only serves breakfast which we didn't try. There is absolutely no storage space in the hotel room, making it impossible to unpack. No shelves, no hooks. just a few hangers over a tiny refrigerator. The tap water wasn't safe to drink. There were no water containers provided by the hotel. We had to fetch our own drinking water every day. The air conditioning had a very bright temperature indicator light that illuminated the room at night, requiring us to sleep with eye shades. The beach is gritty volcanic black sand and not at all suitable to swim in and there's no pool. Access to the town is by wet landing on the beach.
The view from the porch was lovely. The air conditioning worked. Drake Bay has good access to Isla Cano Marine Reserve and the Corcovado National Park, which are both worth a visit if you are into those things. The staff was extremely helpful with luggage, arranging tours, and responsive to requests, but the hotel lacks amenities.

CanadaThere was an overall lack of attention to the place considering the price. The water refill was hardly filled, no ice or lime. There was no coffee, tea in the room or outside, depsite the coffee maker. The handle on the sink kept falling off. The shower issues, trickling at best. we had no water for a night. I was told it was a town issue, but the other two places I stayed at/visited were doing just fine. The power went off a few times. The noise from the town was a bit much. No one helped with bags. It shouldn't even be a question as to help or not since it's a long and hot way up. Unfortunately, because there is no pool, you will need to keep ac on or shower often. It gets pretty hot. It is overpriced for what you get.
The bed was really comfortable and the partial view was nice. It is centrally located.

United KingdomNegatives: Wrong room assigned - we had to wait 24h for the correct room to be available. First room was not clean - there were empty shampoo sachets and used soap bar in the shower. First room leaked - presumably from the upstairs plumbing as it didn't correlate to rainfall. Shower water is tepid at best (not necessarily an issue if it's hot!). At the right price point and expectation a perfectly decent offering. At the current prices and lack of care and investment, not compelling. I've deliberately tried to keep pros and cons factual to help other travellers to the AMAZING Drake Bay...
This accommodation is top end hostel / budget hotel category. If you were paying those prices that would be fine, but Las Cotingas markets itself as something more, which invariably disappoints. Positives: Great views from communal areas or sea view rooms; helpful staff who helped with bags from boat.

United KingdomThe best thing about this hotel is the stunning view of the bay but you need to climb over 90 steps to get there. This is a very basic and below average hotel. The pictures are totally misleading. My room and bathroom were hostel standard, no hot water, electric cables exposed in the shower, soap dispenser broken, neck breaking pillows, unfriendly owner but helpful receptionist.

Portugalwe did not have warm water and the cold water was so less that we couldn’t take a shower. the AC didn’t work properly- they needed to repair it twice and still didn’t work. the staff was very unfriendly- really unfriendly! principal the guy that is not that tall. he asumed that he sended to me things, and then apologized for not doing it - then when I asked for the warm water I just didn’t get an answer not by whatsapp and not personally (personally they just said: we are checking) and then never get an response again… the food is the badest I have eaten in Costa Rica.
the view - only!

FranceThe room and particularly the bathroom was nothing like the pictures in booking.com, the toilette was broken I had to fix it myself, the bathroom was a disgrace, floor boards sticking out of the floor in the middle of the room really dangerous to walk around. Booking.com should check these places it is your reputation too.
