Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

New ZealandThe staff could focus a little more on cleaning, the kitchen needs a deep clean and the bathrooms weren't touched while I was there, toilet paper overflowing from the bins
Comfortable bed, jungle location so felt very in nature.

United StatesThe shared showers can use some upgrading as the doors are rusty. The shared areas need to be cleaned more frequently.
It keeps with the jungle theme. Lots of plants and there were two friendly cats. The room was spacious and bed was comfy.

CanadaEvery toilet had turds floating in them. The communal dorm was super hot but that’s expected. The beds were decent but the pillows were pathetic. They were basically just cotton swabs stuffed into an airplane sized pillow case. It ended up hurting my neck the next morning.
Good common areas, as much fresh filtered water as you need. Decent communal kitchen. Fruit growing on tree around the property. Staff is super friendly and helpful. They have Netflix if you feel homesick

AustriaThe kitchen could use some love. Not always clean and the pans and so are quite old. Hot water situation could be better. We saw that in the description it was written about bycicles but then when we arrived we rented them as they had none.
Loved waking up with the sound of the monkey and the nature. Staff was friendly.

AustriaThe hostel needs some love right now, but the new management is on it. So but there was some things that could be better, like the kitchen. There is not much stuff and the quality is kind of bad(pans and stuff) But its possible to cook so its ok ;) Also in the dorm were so many mosquitos, that sleeping was not possible at some nights. There are no mosquito nets and the doors don't close properly. I would in general recomend to travel with a mosquito net in costa rica...
Very chill place with lots of artsy details. Its in the middle of the jungle what is beautiful. You can see a lot of animals and listen to the forest concert. The path from the mainroad up to the hostel(10min walk) was the highlight of my day. Such a beautiful forestwalk. People were nice and helpful. I spent my last night in a private room. They are beautiful and have mosquito nets!!!

SwitzerlandThe kitchen could have some more things to share, like some more glasses, some salt/pepper etc. One night the water was out, and the smell became a little bit strong with the many people using the bath.. also, when there was a problem with the toilets or the kitchen in the evening, the staff just let it like that until the facillity management came the next morning.
Hostel in the middle of the jungle. Nice chill-out area, the double room were nice and clean. The staff helped us whenever there were questions. Keep in mind, that you are in the jungle - electricity went out once fore some hours, which didn't bother us. They cleaned the public bathrooms / kitchen every morning.

United StatesThe only issue for me was the fact my private room was right next to the kitchen so sometimes late at night or early morning I could hear people talking which disturbed my sleep but that's no fault of the hostel.
What I love most is how close the hostel is to nature -- it's an escape from places like Puerto but still close you can easily get to supermarkets, the beach, etc. I love Anna the cleaner! She is extremely sweet and so is Sofi and Andres who manage the hostel. There's also plenty of space to chill, hangout, do work, watch movies in the "boat" which I loved to hangout with the friends i made at the hostel.

United Kingdomthe kitchen had a permanently horrible smell but was cleaned every day by staff. the beds had mosquito nets and the doors were kept open 24/7 and didn’t ever shut properly. the bikes were good quality but kind of expensive compared to everywhere else, and seeing as it’s pretty far from puerto viejo it would be nice to have a bit of a discount if you have paid to stay. simple fixes could make this place perfect
it was a colourful and simple stay. the beds were comfy and there were lockers. a shared kitchen helped budget my stay at Costa Rica and you could rent bikes here. very close to cocles beach which was nice.

BrazilVery expensive for what is offered. We paid 45 dollars per night in a private room with a shared bathroom. There was no water between 2 PM and 7 AM, apparently due to an external problem in water supply, but we were only informed by that after completing the check-in. The kitchen is available for usage in a very limited time, you cannot use it after 9 PM. When there is water, you cannot expect to have a hot shower. There is no ammenities provided (e.g. soap), the laundry was not available during our stay. Do not recommend.
Very friendly staff! It's located near Playa Cocles, 10 min walking, and it's easy to explore other beaches in the surrounding area if you rent a bike (which can be provided/facilitated by the staff)
