Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

South AfricaThe room floor and working space was dirty when I moved in. They should clean up after each exit. I managed to get a rag, and the broom was always available to clean up. So, it's not serious. They need mats off the beach and into the rooms to clean beach sand, but there is a tap outside to wash feet. One fridge was broken, so we had to cram our food into one fridge, but again, it's not that bad. We made it work.
The location !! ✅️ right on the beach. Close to town. I decided on a hammock as my bed and the first night I was a bit uncomfortable and also loud music 🎶 but after that, it was perfect. I could hear the sea and it was cool Water on tap The kitchen had all the equipment - it could do with upgrading but ok to get by The water pressure in the showers amazing. Also clean and spacious Most of the staff were friendly. Nice and quiet most of the time. Beautiful setting loads of mosaics. Music great most of The time. Beers only 1500 colones.

AlbaniaIt was a bit loud at night because of the bar and the lady at the reception wasn't super welcoming.
The mattress in the tent was comfortable and it's amazing to be so close to a beautiful place at the ocean.

United KingdomThe kitchen is too small and could be cleaner. Another kitchen area would be useful.
It has a lovely vibe and amazing mosaic artwork on almost every surface. Perfect location. The reception staff very helpful and friendly.

SpainThe place is huge, with capacity for over a hundred, yet there seem to be only four bathrooms and showers... clearly not enough. If it was full, that would be a problem. The room was too hot to sleep even if outside it wasn't as much. The kitchen is not equipped with necessary utensils, there is like at most one spoon and one fork if youre lucky but no knife.
Very cool hostel, nice common areas and atmosphere. Directly at beachfront

United StatesTHE BED AND PILLOWS..throw them out! The mattress is absolute trash...there is no comfort and I couldn't sleep my entire stay. There's No AC in that room but a decent working fan is present. It's a hostile, so I suppose u just make do, BUT THE TOUCAN in San Jose is also a hostile and it was the best sleep the whole trip!
This is a magnificent location with great views and access to a private beach! beauty is all around you. Very Artsy and free. I LOVE that u can choose a hammock, tent or door that closes for your stay. Whatever floats your boat, and u still feel safe! We had the "honey moon" suite! Upstairs/outside attic type but really cool. Very nice bathroom with partial kitchen.

United KingdomSlight walk out of town but nothing too crazy. I didn’t realise that the hammocks would be out in the open air so i was eaten alive by mosquitos which wasn’t helped by the fruit falling through the ceiling during the night!
Beautiful property, super cheap for Costa Rica, perfect for a budget traveller. The staff were super friendly and helpful and when you walk through the back gates you’re on a lovely beach with loads of monkeys in the trees above. Great vibe in the place.

Costa RicaIf you live in a tent, it's not the best, but worth your money. Also, the weekends are an absolute desaster. There are a lot of people and if you are a people person and like to party hard, it probably won't appear that bad, maybe even the opposite. But it's messy. Also the kitchen: You can't cook on a good temperature. It's either too hot or too cold. Also you're kind of far from the actual centrum of Puerto Viejo. DONT GO TO THE SUPERMARKET ON THE OTHER SIDE. ITS DOUBLE THE NORMAL PRICE
Very cheap and big. Nice personnel. During the week it's pretty chill. Also there is a private beach and a bar with a pool table that were really nice. At the bar you can even play your own music if the staff (really chill) lets you

EstoniaThe tents get quite hot and don’t have much air. It’s obvious with this weather and all but can be uncomfortable.
Relatively quiet hostel with good vibes. Good option for budget travellers. It was clean and with a lot of space in open areas. Plenty of showers.

United StatesNothing much, you get what you pay for, a clean comfortable place to sleep. No hot water but that wasn't an issue for me. I say this is probably a great place for the price they offer.
I love the uniqueness of the decorations and architecture. I stayed in the mixed dorm and our entry way was a red hand door. I like that the beach was in the back, easy access to the beach. The vibe was very chill and the place was clean. I like that they have big lockers available along with its own locks as well. I liked this place so much, I extended my one night stay into 4 nights.

GermanyThe staff seems to be quite moody, sometimes they were extremely friendly and helpful, the next minute they just wanted to get rid of you.
The place is very aesthetically pleasing and much cleaner than I expected for 8 bucks (I booked a hammock). Even though the hostel is gigantic, it never feels overwhelming. The space is well used. Plus, I had calculated to pay pretty much exactly 9000 Colones - I ended up paying 8840.
