Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews

Things can be better: Beds have no curtain; Only couple of outlets in the room, so you need a long charging cable; Since no curtain and travelers come and go at all times - bright light on your face off and on all through the night when someone turns on the room light. Kitchen is bare bone and very small - not even salt or black pepper in the kitchen, Fridge - not very clean. Women's toilet and shower facilities are different and there is no sink where shower is, so brushing your teeth, or just washing face can be an issue - as there is no place to keep your stuff in women's toilet.
Very close to airport, 24/7 staff who is fluent in English, Kitchen with microwave, clean and comfortable bed, clean and small toilet with sink, separate spacious shower room for women.

Nothing more or nothing less than exactly what you need for an early morning flight the next day. Area is not nice at all but there's a Chinese restaurant a few minutes walk from the hostel which gets the job done dinner wise. Airport shuttles fixed at 5 USD booked for whenever you like by the reception.

A lot of hostels have “curtains,” to divide your space /block out light - not a big deal, but would be a nice extra since everyone is on different schedules
Super close to the airport - I had an overnight layover and this is just what I needed, a clean place to sleep, bathrooms, and even a kitchen to use with fridge to leave food in. Plenty of bathrooms, towel to use and easy check-in/out

No way to lock the room or valuables. There were some really unsavoury people hanging around outside in the neighbourhood . They made me feel unsafe.

The are felt a little sketchy.

Only one bathroom for all men
Next to the airport. Good for one night layover. They organise a taxi for you to go to the airport. Costs 5$. In general enough. Not a lot around this location

The area of the 6-bed dorm is a bit too small. It would be nice if they could provide a shuttle back and forth the airport.
Great location super close to the airport, easy to reach with a 5 min taxi ride and super responsive and friendly staff. The bed was comfortable and it was not too hot in the room. The shared bathrooms were also pretty clean. Good wi-fi.

It's ok for one night but it's not very comfortable. The toilet was extra small and the shower not super clean. Also, the bed does not have a proper cushion linen.
Super close to the airport and they arrange a taxi directly from the hostel to the airport at the time of our preference.

It's right by the airport so you will hear a really loud plane every couple hours.

Nothing. Its a perfect spot to stay before/ after using the airport.
We had a late flight so was looking for a hostel with 24/7 checkin and close to the airport. It was only a 5 minute taxi. Staff were friendly and actually upgraded us as a better room was available which was Nice.

The place is less than 5 mins drive from the airport. It was a really good to stay if you have a late night flight arrival. We arrived to SJO airport at 1am. The owner gave us a WhatsApp number for a driver so we didn’t get caught up in the crazy and a little bit scary taxi situation of San Jose. The driver took us to the accomodation and got us through the locked up gate at the accomodation. We checked in at 1:30am showered and slept comfortably.
