Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomI am so sad and angry to have to write a review so negative. This business should not be allowed to accept guests. When we arrived the hosts were too busy watching a hockey game and too drunk to complete check in. We werent hugely worried by this as they seemed friendly and the room was nice. Even when the owners (father and son) were up later and louder than all the other guests in the hostel we were still planning to stay the two nights we had booked however perhaps a solo traveller wouldn't feel as comfortable. The real problems arose the next day. Both hosts were drinking from early in the morning. We had to broach payment as we were leaving early the next day and were worried they would forget. I wish we hadn't considering what followed. We were woken up at 1am by a fight happening downstairs. It escalated from stressed whispering about 'calling the police' - about what we had no idea - and then yelling, fighting, smashed glasses, furniture thrown and threats of murder. We had no idea if this was between the hosts and a guest or just the hosts themselves and were too scared to leave the room to find out. We ended up calling the police just incase a guest was in trouble but they didn't arrive. When things quietened down at 2am we packed all our stuff as quickly as possible, got in our car and left. If I had been staying alone I would have been incredibly worried about my safety. We unfortunately didn't see the number of 1 star reviews before staying otherwise we would have heeded advice and stayed well clear. I believe the better reviews were from lucky travellers, it's not worth the risk. (Also despite living in Costa Rica for two years the hosts do not speak any spanish which felt disrespectful to the local community and again demonstrates their lack of care for creating a successful, safe and welcoming hostel rather than an excuse for them to drink 24/7 under the guise of a 'party atmosphere').

Polandthis place is old, messy, it looks nothing like in the photos, definitely has not been renovated in years. the room and bathroom were covered in a sticky dirt, the mosquito net in the bathroom was broken, the walls were so thin you could here everything that people were saying in other rooms. we couldn’t sleep and only wanted to avoid spending time in this place as much as we could. We even considered changing places, but it was only a two night stay, so we spend all of our time wandering around and driving to places nearby and then we left super early in the morning on the day of a check out. the owner marked our stay as no-show (THE AUDACITY!).
it was close to the Colonial Beach

SwedenI started my travels at Uvita Pirates Hostel and it was truly the best possible start to my trip. I felt immediately at home and so welcomed by the absolutely wonderful people at pirates. They were all so great to me, helped me with a lot of things and showed me some beautiful spots in Uvita. The location was amazing, just a few minutes walk to the beach with the most beautiful sunsets and some great restaurants but still close to the stores, waterfalls and so. The area is very calm and I felt incredibly safe at all hours. The room was really nice, clean and very comfortable and the common areas great for hanging out, relaxing. I loved my stay so much and would definitely come back any time. Thank you Tom, Christine and the rest of the pirates family for opening up your hearts, welcoming me and giving me such a wonderful experience. I'll carry you and all the beautiful memories in my heart ❤️ Pura vida

BelgiumStaff was under the influence of alcohol and weed during the day, but they were still functioning normally and they were friendly. At night, though, they both started fighting heavily with each other (father and son). Punches were flying through the air, some of them were landing on each other, furniture was being pushed around, the son was bleeding, they would threaten about killing each other, the dog was barking in panic towards the surrounding houses. Eventually, we moved from the balcony (from where we could see and hear everything) to our friends’ room, but we still had to cross the common area where they were fighting. Of course we didn’t go back to our room until it had calmed down. We were not afraid per se for our own safety, but when you’re traveling you don’t want this weird and sketchy vibe. It just doesn’t seem responsible for these people to maintain a hostel. We’d read and heard about the fights and substances’ use on other occasions, but we didn’t think it would be that bad. After one night we were convinced that we wouldn’t stay there for another 2 nights. The hostel itself was very basic (not my concern per se), there were no actual windows in the frames, the bathroom wasn’t necessarily clean or functioning.
Staff was friendly towards guests. They didn’t make a big deal when we said we wanted to change the booking from 3 nights to 1 night.

United StatesThis is the perfect place to stay in Uvita! You are less than a five minute walk from the beach and across the street from a supermarket. Nick, the owner, makes you feel super welcome from the first moment you arrive, and is so helpful in arranging any tour you could want in the area. He gave me a ride to the bus station when I left, gave other travelers a ride to the bus station and bank—basically, he will help you with anything! The atmosphere is very friendly and welcoming. Definitely recommend staying during your time in Uvita!
