Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomThe location is perfect to explore the town. The hostel is very clean and well maintained. Breakfast was excellent. The room comfortable. Best of all our host Marco who was friendly and welcoming, gave us tips what to see and where to eat. He even gave us a lift to the correct bus stop for Cuenca. Muchas gracias Marco

It is a hidden gem - the best I’ve stayed in in Ecuador - the breakfast was soo well presented & delicious. Newly renovated yet still has quirks with its eclectic collection displays.. the hosts are lovely people and clearly enjoy visitors without being overbearing..try & fit it into your travels as it’s well placed for a stop over 🥰

FranceMy only regret about visiting Alausi was not staying longer. I first came to hike the Nariz del Diablo which I highly recommend if you want spectacular views, but would have stayed for the small town, the food, the people and the Community Hostel. Don Marco was nothing but welcoming, making me feel right at home, in this beautiful property he has. The rooms were spacious and the breakfast really good. If you have time you can even sit down and chat with him around a cup of tea and a couple cookies. While there I suggest to go eat at La estacion del tren, you might even run into Don Marco eating lunch there. Everyone that I met took the time to chat with me. It is truly the best experience I’ve had so far in Ecuador!

GermanyNothing. It can get very cold at night, but there are plenty of blankets available. We were the only guests - it’s a pity that Ecuador has very few tourists due to the current political situation. We wish the people here all the best; we had a wonderful stay and didn't encounter any issues. Check out the hiking route from Quilotoa on Komoot. ;)
Good and quiet accommodation with very kind hosts, delicious dinner and useful tips for the area. High-speed WiFi for remote work is a big advantage. The hike from Quilotoa Crater to the hostel is challenging, but the views are magnificent.

BrazilNo problem at all.
This hostel is excellent. It is actually like a hotel. Beautiful, clean. The location is awesome, the city is so beautiful. Marcos will host you like a friend, and help you with anything you need. He helped us book a tour to the lakes, gave us instructions to get to "Nariz del Diablo" by walking on the mountain, and even gave us a lift to the bus station. I highly recommend this place.

IrelandA must stay if you're visiting Alausi, the staff are fantastic the property is located 30 seconds from the train station and the train line is directly outside the door, it's also only a 2 min walk to the black bridge which gives you a beautiful view and if you're adventurous you can carefully cross it.

United StatesWe had leaking in the shower of our room. Water would seep under the glass panels and flood the bathroom floor. The cleaning product they use on the floors is very waxy. Uncomfortable to walk around barefoot as it leaves a residue on your feet. These are both items that can be fixed easily, writing this for staff to see. Would still definitely stay here again! Oh and you can't use the kitchen as others have said. But I wouldn't let anyone use that beautiful kitchen either. Most backpackers would destroy it.
A very clean hotel and very friendly staff/family that run it. Room was comfortable and clean. Relatively new and well thought out. The room had great storage space! Good location in town and easy to get around.

United KingdomCoffee/hot water available but no kitchen or fridge access which is a shame as facilities are there and restaurant choice in Alausi is limited.
Nice room with lovely walk in shower. Hot water/coffee available. Compact room but has good storage to put luggage in.

AustraliaThe only downside was that because the train is no longer running, the town is very quiet in terms of tourists so there was only myself and 1 other guest at the hostel so unfortunately due to the circumstances of the train, the town is not great for meeting people. However I can't fault the hostel at all and the Devil's Nose Hike is worth a stop if you have time in your travels 😊
The hostel itself is amazing and one of the nicest I've ever stayed! It looks very recently renovated and is very clean. The beds are super comfortable and the dorms even have 2 bathrooms located within the dorm which is very nice! And hot water 😍 The communal areas also look really nice however I didn't use them. Perfect stay for 1 night to do the Devil's Nose Hike. Or if you are looking for a very quiet and relaxing hostel to unwind for a bit, this is perfect!

United StatesThere was no breakfast offered while we were there, also it’d be nice if they had a place where we could fill our water bottles. Finally, there are some roosters next door that were quite noisy.
Very new, clean hostel in the beautiful town of Alausi. They had lots of information on their website about walking along the Nariz del Diablo trail which was absolutely gorgeous. Free tea and coffee and the price of the room was a great value.

United StatesBreakfast is fantastic but only served 8-9. Not 7-10 as posted. Dinner is not served as stated on posting. But there are plenty restaurants nearby.
Hostel is very clean and new. Luis and the lady that cooked our breakfast are both very pleasant people. The wifi was great. The web site has a detailed hike on it. We hiked to the big rock but no further because my wife is afraid of heights. But even this distance and back was a good hike. Saw the old bull arena, neighborhoods, and a trail with great valley views.
