Only con was that area was a bit sketchy (which taxi driver and even owner briefed me re: which side to avoid etc.)

Great owners (son & father combo); very quiet, clean, exceeded expectations in terms of value offered.

    The shower just dribbled water.

Basic but clean and comfortable. They accommodated us arriving at 2:30 am! There are security guards all around outside.

I am baffled why the JSI has such great reviews. The fact you have to be let out as well as in makes it feel like an open prison and I felt a bit embarrassed about having to keep disturbing the owners. I know it is their decision to do that, but I still felt awkward. I realise that this is a security issue and that they prefer to do that but it does seem excessive, especially as you have to pass through two doors. I paid more than I usually would for accomodation in order to be closer to the start of the race but realised I paid for four days (Thur, Friday, Sat, Sun) 3 times more than the following 3 days (Mon, Tue, Wed). Maybe because it was a weekend, I dunno. It wasn't due to the race as I appeared to be the only one running it. For what I paid I would have liked a bedside table and be able to turn the light off without getting out of bed. (I read before sleeping). There was good hanging space but no shelf space or wardrobe. The "garden" is a small, high walled courtyard with little foliage. The laundry service is overpriced. There is no access to a fridge. I don't mean a kitchen, just somewhere to keep drinks cool. The WiFi in my room worked fine the first day then didn't for the following 3. (To be fair I didn't tell them this as I don't use it often and just went out to reception if I needed it). Couldn't get Netflix to work. Not that fussed about that either. I'm not saying it isn't a good place to stay but I wouldn't stay there again at the price I paid. I am the first person to say "if you travel on a budget, you have to compromise and accept what you get" but I have often paid much less for much more. I feel a bit guilty leaving negative points as I think people often pay low and expect high but these are my honest thoughts.

The hosts were absolutely great. I stayed here to run in the Guayaquil half marathon which started at 0400 and the owner got out of bed to let me out at 0330. Lovely people, friendly and helpful. The place is Immaculately clean and has good functional Aircon and hot water. Towels provided. The location is good too. Lots of good street food around including chocobananas for $0.50c at the corner shop!! (Out of front door, turn right, turn right at corner then first left). $5 to airport and Terminal Terrestre.

A small window with no view, but it was no big deal for me.

Clean, with a nice hot shower and a nice cold air-conditioning. Very helpful staff. Location felt much safer than I expected, even around 8 in the evening, when it's still busy at the main streets. It's a 20 minutes walk to the Malecon, which is by far the most interesting place in Guayaquil.

The room is very tidy and clean.White linen. It has A/C. It is very important in Guayaquil. Private bathroom with hot water shower. The water pressure and temperature is very good. Right in the city center. Close to everything. Uber is less than 5 dollar to get to anywhere including airport and bus staton. The owner family is really really kind and welcoming. It feels safe to stay at their place. They offer laundry service including washing and drying and folding for 8 dollar one basket. I love the quality of their laundry service. Super happy to receive my clean clothes. My departing flight was at 5pm. They allowed me to stay in the room (late check out) without extra charge. Actually it was too comfy to stay in the room that every day I didn't want to leave the room. Also their WiFi signal is very good. The best I had in Ecuador.
